Natwest took half of my money!

On the 24th of December 2011 my mum and dad deposited £400 into my bank account. The branch gave them the usual customer receipt and I went to my online banking and saw £400 had just been put into my account. I purchased a few things that left me with £50 remaining on my account. On the 28th of December I checked my account online and noticed that on the 24th of decemeber an EXTRA £200 had been deposited to my account, and that on the 28th of december the £400 I put in had been removed due to a *Correcting Entry*. I also noticed that because of this I was now overdrawn. As of today I have overdraft charges of £132 on my account.

I complained to natwest about the situation and recently received a letter stating Natwest collections contacted the branch the money was deposited into and they state that £200 was put into my account and that the concern is now resolved . When I told the guy I wasn't happy about this because £200 is basically missing from my account he said all he can do was to report the concern and that they'd go through the exact procedure again . I just want to close the account now, this isn't the first time this happened (Last time £500 was put into my girlfriends account, then withdrawn, then deposited and withdrawn again due to multiple correcting and re-correcting entries). Any idea on how I can resolve this?

Edit: As of 5 minutes ago £200 was put into my account by birmingham collections and then REMOVED by them straight away due to correcting entry. This is just getting out of hand now
For those wondering, I did get my money back from Natwest and was given Silver account free for a year.

Do you owe any money to this collection agency or a credit card or anyone say £200

Is sounds like NatWest Collections are a company who are collecting a debt on behalf of someone else and I

thought maybe that they had deposited £200 instead of taking it, so they took that £200 plus the £200 you owe them.

    @McKneff Don't owe them anything

The poster above raises a good point, do you owe money to RBS group companies?
If so, and it's about £200, then you've just paid off a debt, well done.

If not, then the branch you paid into cannot balance a till. Do you have the time to go to branch with your receipt and see a person? It seems on the face of it it's not the hardest thing for them to put right, if you make them try.

Do you owe anybody, anywhere £200 or thereabouts.

It makes me wonder how they have access to your account.

Go into the bank and stand there and demand some answers, dont move till you get an explanation/£200 back.

I agree with the others, go into the branch armed with your receipt.

  • I have no debts to any RBS groups and I'm quite surprised as to where money is coming from thats being PUT in to my account. Really annoyed. Yeah I shall walk in there tomorrow and see what they say.

Natwest Collections is just a department of the bank who deal with situations where an account is overdrawn.

Its a difficult one, because a till must not have balanced somewhere. I know what's not your fault, but maybe there's some confusion and the cashier thought only 200 was deposited, hence the correcting entry? Would be best to speak to the branch where the money was paid in as they'll be able to check their till results.

Yeah I thought it was a mistake, but as I said in my first post the corrections team (Or whoever it was that actually checked my concern) said they spoke to the branch and the branch stated that only £200 was deposited (Even though my receipt says £400). I shall take the receipt to them and see what they say

Make several copies of the receipt beforehand.
