  • Normally you can download drivers and software from the manufactures website. Alternatively you can use the drive in the laptop to get the info and pass it to the netbook but if you've got viruses that your current AV cannot deal with that is probably not a good idea.

Dont touch norton, it is terrible on so many fronts. If you want a commercial package then look at Kaspersky - which is free if you are a barclays customer who uses their online banking. There are free alternatives like Avast and AVG but not a fan of them personally.

You shouldn't need to pay anything to fix the laptop (and you really don't need to pay for norton), see the sticky at the top of this section about speeding up a slow of infected PC.
If all the virus is doing is hiding files, then it should be straight-forward to get rid of.

Uninstall Norton, use Microsoft Security Essentials (free) or if you're on Virgin Internet use their free antivirus.
How do I add a signature?

Hi we tried all the free stuff avast and pc tools but nothing shifting it. worried as lots of photos on laptop. its hp pavillion 6years old so quite old and slow. he was dowloading stuff off frostwire or you tube hes run checks and it scans the files yet he cant acess which is why hes thinking hes will have to purchase norton.

Or old printer epsom has seen better day.

just want basic colour printer for coupons cheap, wireless and small that would work well with my samsung netbook and the laptop when fixed.

Thinking upgrading laptop later in year as really is on last legs.

im barclays customer but dont use online. if i ring up and order online then will they they send me free virus software might be worth a try.:D

On the laptop, install and run Malwarebytes from here:-
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756

Make sure you update the definitions and then run a full scan (may have to be done in safe mode).
Post the log when finished and someone will advise you what to do next.

They dont send it to you (unless you are a mac user) but provide a link after you have logged in which goes to a page that generates a serial key for you. You simply download the free trial from the Kaspersky site and then enter the serial number to unlock it.

If the various free AV programs won't remove the problem, then you can be sure that Norton won't. Just uninstalled N360 on a laptop and put on Kaspersky. I had my suspicions and did a full scan with MBAM before loading KIS...it found over 240 infections that Norton had missed.

Don't know what you've installed but it wasn't Malwarebytes but it looks like you clicked on the ad above.
From the link I posted, you want Download locations (middle-ish of screen) and then pick one of those.
It's a free program that's free to update.

You might want to try this link instead:
    http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5756&file=15&evp=693ee0b20204960edfd909666f809b26

but don't click on anything unless you get the I.E. warning bar at the top about downloading files.

Using supposed 'PC repair/cleanup' programs that you find online is not the solution. You appear to have just installed further malware onto your machine.
