disable the messenger service, you don't need to run it...
on win 2000 (not sure about xp) go to control panel / administrative tools / services
find messenger service, double click to open, change startup type to disabled then click OK.
easy!Wot, no sig?0 -

If you have XP, it's disabled by default in SP2 onwards so just upgrade.

Talking about messenger, almost every email i have recieved lately says its got a virus. They are from people i know who have been emailing me for ages, and i have not had problems with viruses before. I have come to the conclusion that hotmails virus checker is super sensitive as i have scanned any pictures with my own anti virus and they seem fine. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Click on the Start button in the taskbar -- Open Control Panels -- Go to Administrative Tools (XP users may need to go to 'Performance and Maintenance' first, then Administrative Tools) -- Double-click on Services -- Scroll down to Messenger -- Double-click on Messenger -- Change the Startup type to "Disabled" -- Click Stop to stop the service0

kev801 - Sounds like you do have a potential spyware issue.
Free applications I recommend Spybot Search & Destroy (https://www.spybot.info) or Ad-Aware SE Personal (https://www.lavasoft.de). If running XP/Win2k Microsoft have a Beta version anti-spyware out that seems good.
I find that they all pick up things the others have missed, just make sure you definately update them and disconnect from the 'net before scanning.0 -
I have tryed all that still have them will they ever go?[IMG][/IMG]0

Kev - what pop-up blocking software do you have installed on your PC, and which browser are you using?
It may be that these are just standard advertising popups, and not Messenger or Spyware related.0
