Hi,
Bought my son a Samsung laptop for Xmas. Worked brill at first & was very fast, but now its speed is very irratic and it's often impossible to get the e-mail in box to open. It was also often losing its internet connection momentarily but we seem to have sorted that out.
We have another older laptop and when using them side by side and doing the same things the old computer works perfectly so its not a problem with signal strength or router.
Both computers are set up the same i.e.
use windows 7
have microsoft security essentials
internet explorer 9 as default browser
and bing as default search engine and I have checked all of the settings to check that both computers are set up in exactly the same way, so I am at a loss as to why the new one isn't working properly.
We discovered that my son had downloaded some extra security from Mcaffee and had installed Google chrome and was using it as his main browser. Unstalling these in the hope of curing the problem has been unsuccessful. We keep running the troubleshooter but it hasn't been much help. Don't know much about computers and I'm at my wits end . I 've been up all night trying to sort it out for him but I really don't know what I'm doing so I hope that someone out there will be kind enough to help. Any advice or suggestions as to what I should try will be very greatly received. Regards kje.

If your son installed Mcafee and you uninstalled it, did that include using the Mcafee removal tool?
http://mcafee-removal-tool.com/
If not then this could be causing a problem!
Also worth checking are windows updates upto date?
goto control panel, windows updates.
Also you might be better posting this in the techie forum as more people there who can help;)0 -
Tell him that you can't run 2 AV programs on the same machines, they will conflict. MSE will be fine, McAffee is awful.
Tidy up as above and also do a further clean up using CCleaner and Disk Clean Up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
