Would you change a sky blue bathroom suite ???

  • AS a bathroom designer and installer, I have two questions. Do you intend to stay there? If so how long?

Just a few simple facts of life. Do with them what you will.
If you intend to stay 5-10 years do what YOU want.
If you have even half an eye on moving then change to white.
No matter how 'retro' it looks, it will turn most buyers off. This means any money you have spent will be wasted.

Manufacturers are currently trying really hard to get people to invest in colours again for one reason and one reason only - sales. White is eternal and goes with everything. A change of colour on the walls, some new towels and new floor covering and you have a new bathroom.

If you have a coloured suite it limits the possibilities for potential buyers so, unless you find that one person in a 1000 who likes it wfor what it is you'll pee off 999. Not good sense!

this was our old suite. when we bought this present house.
i was tempted to rip it out the day we moved in.

ormus you have posted that picture several times before. I think you secretly miss that suite.

Yes indeedy, I think you protest too much. ;):D

OP, if you intend selling at one point, get a white suite. If you wont be selling any time soon, then leave alone. But dump the yellow idea. :D

One problem with older coloured suites is if the toilet breaks you often can't find a matching one. So if you aren't moving I would wait until such time it's beyond repair, then replace the entire bathroom.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Unless the bathroom is a really hideous colour such as Ormus's delightful raw liver suite, I seriously doubt the expense and time of changing it will be recovered in selling the house.

More buyers might like white than blue, but are they really going to pay the extra money for it? I certainly wouldn't.

its not about getting the extra money back in the selling price. its about not making 90% of your potential buyers turn around and walk away.
(a white suite can be had for 199 quid). big deal.

do rolls royce and mercedes etc make a pink car?

Well, you can certainly get a Rolls Royce in any colour that your bad taste might consider to be desirable. I don't know about Mercedes though.

A horrible colour of bathroom would not make me walk away.
But then, I would be doing the change myself, so not as expensive as it would be for those people for whom DIY is an unknown concept.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Yes, but that was the picture that was in the estate agent's schedule. ;) We've also got rid of the flounce at the window! If it was a straight swap I would do it, but it actually needs a new floor as it bounces and is actually rotten (not surprising considering they had carpet down - and not even bathroom carpet, hessian backed!) and it needs the ceiling to be replaced or plastered as we took out the ancient spotlights as they were broken and we couldn't find replacements to fit - and there's also a wallpaper border on the ceiling!) Not to mention the walls once we take off those tiles. A bathroom suite might be cheap enough but that room actually needing gutted. I would keep the suite if everything else was okay as it's a really good quality one and the colour really doesn't bother me, although white would be my first choice.

I'm not one for changing things for the sake of it. I don't care if my stuff is old-fashioned, as long as it's in good condition, works and it's clean. :) I'd rather have old and good quality than something cheap and poorer quality just because it's modern.
