So poor I can't even pay attention

The yard manager doesn't necessarily sound like the best person to listen to, to be blunt.
I'd assume nothing has changed unless you hear it from...er...the horse's mouth (so to speak).

Hugs Piq. This is rubbish..I had thought this was going to be a good day as well.
I am sure he hasn't changed his mind and anyway what business is it of anyone's but his? It's his business, not theirs and you are working in his garden for free.

Arsewankeybollox! What a bunch of smug gits. Bet none of them are between well paid jobs and suffering ritual humiliation by job centre.

What a mean lot Piq. Remember we are all there standing with you when you go to the yard - your virtual invisible army.
Karma will get them.

So What biatchy person told everyone else your arrangement with the owner in the first place ? Dont worry Piq, The owner doesnt sound like the kind of man who will be intimidated by a load of biatching jealous women. Youre working hard for Captains keep and Im quite sure he knows that and appreciates it, I mean, he didnt even ask you to be his gardener, but he was obviously delighted when he found out what you were doing.
Rise above it Hunny, Youre better than all of them.
PS ... operation sales rep is underway, news soon
xIts just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0 -
Im so sorry you are being bullied by small minded idiots.Trying to shift that debt!0

That's what I'll try to do. I'll try and speak to the yard owner at the weekend, see what he says. The yard manager implied that he had changed his mind due to the outcry. I don't think this is necessarily true as nearly everyone is terrified of him. They prefer to go for the more vulnerable amongst us.
I just want to walk away from everything today. I want to go to sleep but I know my mind is going to be constantly replaying everything. I need to sleep so that I am not all tearful and over sensitive at work tomorrow. It would be awful to cry at the job centre
I have been seething most of the night on your behalf, Piq - wondering how I would react..
Choice One: Ignore them all, especially Yard Manager (was it her who gossiped and stirred it with the other owners?).
Choice Two: Start with the owner who is most sympathetic and be honest about your financial situation, emphasise that it was Yard Owner's decision..
Choice Three: Approach the most vocal and vindictive person, preferably while there are plenty of others around. Demand to know why they think you should have Captain destroyed - which is the only practical alternative - when Yard Owner has already decided that he would prefer the old fella to live out his days at the yard at YO's expense.
Choice Four: Talk to Yard Owner again - presumably he is aware of the other livery owners' bad feelings? Ask him to buy Captain for a token sum - nobody can complain then, and if he chooses to allow you to re-vamp his garden in exchange for spending time with Captain [carrying on with everything as if he were still yours] - then that is nobody else's business.
Choice Four B: Ask Yard Owner to make a statement telling all the bitter people to butt out.
My preference would probably be number four but if YO is really that scary, then choice three, after a stiff double vodka for courage. Logic is to throw your most vocal detractor on to the defensive - make them think about what they would do in your position; justify their behaviour towards you now.. Stand up to the main bully, let them discredit themselves so that the viciousness and stupidity of their argument is obvious to all the [STRIKE][STRIKE]sheep[/STRIKE][/STRIKE] gossipy followers.
Good luck at the JC today..0 -
Good post *Robin*! There certainly are some horrible people in the horsey world ... but some angels too. Is there any chance you could "formalise" your gardening for the Yard Owner - work out an hourly rate and do as many as cover your livery fee and any other bills? Then you could tell the petty minds on the yard that you are paying your way, which might defuse the situation. Good luck, hold your head up Piq. xx0

I am sorry but the only place this would have come from is the yard manager. I can't think the owner would want this publicised as it opens him up to all sorts of possible requests!
The yard manager would have probably been told of the situation and frankly if she can't keep her trap shut she does not need to be in a position where she has confidential information given to her.
As for suggesting you pay, well turn round and tell her you ARE PAYING in the form of time freely given in the garden which you bill at £15 per hour (MINIMUM round here any way for gardening just did a quick check! And you have to commit to minimum hours and regularity to get those rates!)
Cheeky mare (pardon the pun) I would also tell her that if she doesn't take measures to stop the behaviour you will have no choice but to make a complaint about her to the owner. He will not be impressed if she has broken a confidence is made in her!
I can totally sympathise, spent most of yesterday morning in tears at work too.
The only other thing I can suggest is you know who the queen bee of the yard is , or at least the vocal !!!! stirrer in this case, so plan your comments and take them out in the nicest possible way in front of as many people as possible in the yard. Will take a HUGE amount of courage but a few well chosen sentences to make the point will probably stop this once and for all.
I would suggest something but every time I start I just end up "with people who live in glass houses ...... " or "being a b1tch must be so draining its amazing you can find the energy to ride a horse" or "takes a thief to see that in others" which may not be appropriate.
