Brill news about EBay..it's dead therapeutic when the money comes in!
Re boiler insurance..I don't have any insurance like that as I believe they find reasons not to pay out, there are plenty of exclusions etc. but I do spend on servicing religiously every year.
But with no emergency fund it is a hard one.
Maybe think on it and see if you can get it cheaper? Or ask this engineer what he'd do if it were him? XMFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Sorry - delurking again - I saw the comments about the boiler and the govt. scheme and wondered whether you were referring to the Green Deal....here comes the link from the main site:

I think you basically apply for a loan/grant to replace an old inefficient boiler (or get some other energy efficient things like double glazing, cavity wall insulation etc) and then pay back through efficiency savings rather than having an "extra" bill to pay.
Don't know if it will be of any help to you. I was thinking about it for my boiler but as I want to move in a few years I didn't think it would work for us (but I have suggested my mum looks at it to replace her decrepit heating system).Allypops

I think the loan under the green deal is linked to the house so any new owners would take it on...... not sure how that will effect the housing market!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Same from me, Piq.
Up at the stables again today. A beautiful sunny day albeit a cold one. DDs thrilled to be given jobs of grooming horses and saddling up. they also properly jumped for the first time.
Made me think I was/am so so glad you have been able to keep Captain.

Still undecided about the boiler insurance. I did the comparison site thingy and the one I've got comes in cheapest. I could take off the electrical support and save about £3 a month. Just not sure... I will ask at the job centre if any support is available. Luckily it is all still working despite being a dinosaur system. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
I've been very busy, hence why I've been missing. The yard owner has been on my mind. Once the relief and subsequent exhaustion had moved on, I started to wonder if there was anything I could do to say thank you. I know he loved his garden but due to personal circumstances it has returned to nature. So I offered to get it back in shape so that he had somewhere to sit in the evening with a beer and cigarette. He didn't say much, but today I took my gardening tools, and after riding a very nappy Captain, who is obviously not so relieved that we can stay together :rotfl:, made a start.
Bloomin' hard work, but I cleared quite a bit and it looked lovely and neat and quite a few of the plants are saveable. He turned up as I was tidying away. The look on his face, I could have cried [again] It was a mixture of all sorts of emotions, but mainly joy!
I am now his head gardener. I am to write him a note of any money that is needed to buy plants or anything I deem necessary and he will leave it for me next day. In addition he is going to supply the Captain with straw, hay and forage in unlimited supply! He has offered the basic feed mix too, but I prefer the Captain on the old git mix.
While I was doing the garden I found myself singing..... No, it was not pretty but I was happy. It's not earning me anything apart from the Captain, maybe something will come of it. The yard owner has plenty of visitors and once I have got it planted up it will be lovely. You never know....
I had a horrible day at work on Friday. It seemed like everyone was arguing and b1tching about one and other. I got shouted at for helping  and there was me thinking team work was important. I had a little snivel in the toilet then thought something along the lines of sod 'em and just did my jobI really want to shout at them sometimes 'you're so lucky to have a job' On average two people a day come into the shop to ask if there are vacancies.
Oh I forgot! I also spoke to the farrier and explained that money was very tight/non existent! He was very helpful, we are going to move the Captain's shoeing a couple of weeks further apart, eight weeks instead of six. Once the summer comes we will try him out with no shoes and see if that works for him. The two extra weeks saving will save on the overall expenses.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
