I gather it needs treating like mutton rather than lamb - so long and slow to tenderise it though the flavour's good. Also friends have indicated that quite a lot of goat on sale is mutton!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

goat is fine, I use it for curries, stews goatburgers, just like lamb. I get mine with my meatpack each month.

'goatburgers' sorry, it just sounds funny...:D

Many years ago on my aunty's farm they had a baby goat that met an untimely end behind their toilet door. (won't go into the toilet .. well I'll tell you. It was a walk from the house (no running water, no electricity) and was a plank with a hole across a bucket.... the little brick building backed onto the pigstyes.... wonderful place for kids to spend their holidays!

Back to the goat. Being truly OS my aunty jointed the kid and we ate it. I remember thinking it was lovely. We also ate rooks. They were good too.

Goat is gorgeous meat but it can take years to cook! Have a look at this old thread for some ideas.

Try "Googling" curry goat, but I would also be interested in seeing any recipes for this West Indian classic.

For those who don't know, it is called curry goat, not goat curry. Goat is delicious, with the texture of mutton and taste of beef. I suppose it tastes of goat, but how do you describe that to anyone who hasn't eaten it?

I too like this dish - but have no clue how to make it! All I know is Scotch Bonnet Chilli is the star ingredient

This really is a treat! The only place that I have seen goat for sale is Leeds market, there's nowhere in Newcastle. It is also cheap to buy.

I simply put meat whatever veg is available with loads of chillies into a large pot and let it simmer for hours and hours in the oven. It always tastes superb whatever I put in, so I don't think a recipe is even necessary.

I'd be interested to know, too - I really should take more interest in African and Caribbean recipes as I have loads of shops which sell the ingredients virtually on my doorstep! The other recipe I'd be particularly interested in is jerk chicken...
