deal coming to the end

when i comparing new prices,i hope i have done it right i put in my consumption at the new standard prices that i will be paying come the 1st april to compare against other tariffs,is this the correct way to do it?
also with my yearly consumption in central scotland
gas 21540 kwh per year
elec 8572 kwh per year
OVO came up with the cheapest prices, now i have never heard of them,
what are peoples thoughts on them as a supplier?
if i did switch when would be the correct time to do it bearing in mind my current deal runs out on the 31st march.
any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

I'm guessing you had the reminder letter through the post today also.
I've had a look online and from the reading I gave them at the end of December, it looks like I'm £143 in arrears on Gas, but £214 in credit on Elec, so I'm hoping they'll be no more to pay come March.
However, I, like yu am now on the search to find a half decent alternative. The changes on the back of the letter seems to be a bit of a decrease in terms of standard daily fee, but the price per kWh are much higher...plus it's variable!
Any advice greatly received0 -
Just been onto my EDF Account, and tried to look at comparisons there. I can, but because I have 2 accounts (1 for gas and one for elec) I can't change tariff as the calculation they deliver is either ridiculously cheap (taking my electric use) or ridiculously expensive (looking at gas use).
*sigh*0 -

Put in your kWh annual usage for both, pick any dual fuel tariff as your current one, ignore the savings or extra costs shown and work it out for yourself by adding your current bills together.
Bit more work, but that's probably the only way to do it if you currently are on separate accounts.

when i compared i just used the standard variable tariff that i will be paying from the 1st april to compare prices and not the online saver version 8 that i am at the moment0
-
I'm in same boat: Online Saver 8 dual fuel tariff ending 31/03/12.
I am being a bit dumb but what do I put in as my usage for the comparison sites?
My renewal letter says my current prices:
Daily Standing Charge (pence/day): ELEC 25.34p GAS 21.92p
kWh charge (pence/kWh): ELEC 9.39p GAS 3.199p
Standard (variable) prices from 01/04/12:
Daily Standing Charge (pence/day): ELEC 14.70p GAS 23.10p
kWh charge (pence/kWh): ELEC 12.85p GAS 3.848p
I have tried to access my bills online to check actual usage but only my first ever bill is showing (I pay by direct debit and my online account is showing in credit)
Any help appreciated!0 -

Depends on the date of your first bill, but if it was around the same time of the year as now, then you can take the readings now, subtract the readings on the bill and factor it up or down to estimate a year's usage. You do really need two readings covering a 12 month period (or multiple thereof) to avoid the figures being skewed by seasonal variances though.
Electricity meter figures are kWh, gas is units, but your bill will show how units are multiplied to get kWh, so you can use that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I can comment OVO as I am with them for another few weeks. Their bills are very straight forward and they try to make things easy for the customer. However they will expect you to remain in credit at all times unlike some companys who will allow for any debit balance to even its self out over the summer months.
They will refund any credit balance to you provided you do not go below your monthly payment. I have also found they are quick at raising the dd once you have joined. This explains why I am now £420.00 in credit.
Also can be difficult to get any refund.
I've tried them but am pleased to be leaving them and going back to Scottish Power.
Other people may or may not agree with my comments but I can only go by my
own experiences with OVO.0 -
I too am with EDF "Online saver 8" which finishes on 31st March phoned them up to see if they would give me an incentive to stay with them but there was nothing doing, the 2013 fixed they have would be about £140 dearer for meper annum and 2014 fixed would be £170 after the £75 cash back they are doing at the moment so will have a look around and see whats about.0
