Latest Ryanair Rip-off - Pay Your Own Airport Security Fees

Just arrived back from Latvia, Riga and the latest news is that Ryanair will not pay the security charges at Riga airport. The upshot is that passengers must pay either 7Euros or 4.92 Latvian Lats to get through security and onto the flight. This entails queuing at a window at the airport in order to buy the security ticket.
This must be one step too far for this tacky airline that would effectively leave its passengers stranded.
Later I will post the handout that they give you when you try and enter the security area without paying the charge.

Why do you fly RyanAir? I'm guessing because it's the cheapest.
Why are they the cheapest? They do things like this.
If you don't like it, fly with a premium airline. But you'll pay extra for the benefit..0 -
Yes it seems to be the cheapest, at times. Also, in this instance they were the only carrier flying form where I wanted to go both to and from. Why do you fly RyanAir? I'm guessing because it's the cheapest.

I don't make any apology for not wanting to pay more than I have to for air travel.0 -
Yes, but a warning at the time of booking would have been appropriate. It seems that Ryanair and Ryanair alone wont pay the airport security charges. Common sense says to me that this ought to be included in the ticket price since it is unavoidable.Sounds like the airport; not the airline.0 -
It's an unavoidable charge regardless who you fly with..........but because ryanair dont accept that this is a fair passenger charge they will not include it in the fare price.
Most other airlines will charge you 6.50 euros more when you buy you ticket, but ryanair do not agree with this charge so you have to pay 7 euros at the airport........if this extra 50p makes your ryanair flight more expensive than any other airline then you know what to do.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0 -

Hmm, not so sure about that - from the Riga airport website:How big is the charge and who must pay it?
The airlines must include this charge into the ticket price; however, the carrier RYANAIR did not agree to include the charge into its ticket price, therefore Riga Airport will collect the charge instead of the airline. Only the RYANAIR passengers will have this additional inconvenience.

.... I know exactly what to do. But, I'd like to know what to do and be able to make that choice before I get there, thank you. It's an unavoidable charge regardless who you fly with..........but because ryanair dont accept that this is a fair passenger charge they will not include it in the fare price.

Yes I know what my options are and I know very well that I have a choice. My point is that i'd like to be able to make the best choice before I fly and not once I'm there if you get my meaning.copa_feela wrote: »You always have the option of flying from/ to another airport, you are not obliged to fly with an airline that you appear to dislike so much. I dislike LGW so will actively avoid it, same with Virgin Atlantic. It's called choice, no one forces you to do anything.0 -
Well I've totally given up on Ryanair. Sick to death of them. All that hassle having to put the distorted codes in before you can even get a price for the flight is ridiculous.
And they're far from cheap now. My daughter looked at 2 flights to Lanzarote outside of school holiday times, and the price was £619! And if you happen to be reckless enough to want to take a case with you, you won't get any change out of £700!! Flight only, end February...you can do well better than that!0
