Cheapest optician for glasses

We have never had a problem with the quality of Specsavers glasses but recently went to myspecsdirect, which was a proper high street retailer with highly qualified staff and all the machinery etc. Everything about them was cheaper and this shows in the quality of the frames. We had to return twice in the first month with my husbands readers because screws had come loose. They just appear to be what they are.. Cheap. We won't go back.0

I went to Optical Express last time and managed to get a pair of glasses for £350, which is just amazing -- my last pair cost nearly double that (although I used cheaper lenses -- I think it was plastic 1.7 index instead of glass 1.9).
I'm not too impressed at the precision with which the lenses are aligned with the centre of my eye, though, and the customer service was pretty poor.
I'll probably go back to Vision Express (or Dolland & Aitchison or Specsavers) next time.0 -

My husband was delighted with the service at our local Specsavers (especially as he used to teach Geography to the manager
).
I used Scrivens, not particularly cheap, but the best pair of spex I have ever had AND I got interest-free credit for twelve months.

I would never buy online.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Specsavers are franchises, so the local branch 'owners' have a genuine interest in looking after their customers.
As i said, any problems have always been sorted quickly. However, I have even had an extra discount a couple of times. Once I remarked that a particular pair had been the worst glasses I'd ever had and was given 10% off my new pair.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

That's three times in one thread you have boosted this company.
I would not go so far as to suggest you had an interest but just to balance up your experience people may like to read about the experiences of others.

Well add my name to Spec Saver fan club .
Always well treated and looked after.
I would not go as far as saying Scots Bob is well out of order for his posting ...... readers can make up their own minds.0 -

eh ?!?!?
ive worm glasses for over 20 years and never paid any where near that and have "designer" glasses
im currently wearing "alain miklis" -4.25 lenses ultra thin, UV and anti scratch coatings and still didnt pay anywhere near that, if youve paid £700 they must be platinum with diamonds or something or they seriously saw you coming...0 -
I've had great specs from Specsavers, they're cheap, they fit and they do what it says on the tin. If they made me a pair that couldn't do all that I wouldn't be handing over my money to them..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
