Hi I am a lady now coming up to her 58th year, I was born in september 1954, A few years ago i was looking forward to my retirement at 60, then i was told it would be 62 ... Now ive just has a letter from the pension office saying that I will not be entitled to state pension untill july 2020 which will make me almost 66!!! I have always worked full time and paid full NI contributions for 40+ years, Please someone tell me this is not right and that I dont have another 8 years to work!!!

Your state pension age will be July 2020. However you can retire when you like as long as you have made adequate retirement provision.0 -

They want you to drop dead before you can collect, this government pension scheme is a sham. Don't rely on it. By the time you reach 68 they will have added on a few more years to avoid paying you out after you are forced to pay into it for life.0

As mentioned above, you havent actually being able to take your state pension at age 60 since the mid 90s (if you include the consultation period, then that is nearly 20 years ago). The female state pension age of 65 was put in place then. It is only the more recent increase to 66, 67 and 68 that were put in place under the Labour Govt and brought forward by the ConLibs (as per the report recommendation commissioned by Labour). So, in reality its not much of delay.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. It seems you should have made provision to work longer 17 years ago. Too bad you don't read newpapers and watch the news where this has been covered extensively over the years. You would have had plenty of time to save and retire earlier.0

Buffy123 your fellow females campaigned for years for equal rights and this is just what is being granted! Men have to work until 65 to get their state pension, so you females have simply been granted equality!0

Thanks for all the responses, I must have realy been out of the loop,up untill last year i believed that I would retire at 62 and that wouldnt change, I am gobsmacked to find its now 66, another 4 years on top!! I have more than paid my NI conributions to qualify for full pension, and it seems so unfair to keep moving the goal posts, what is happening to all the money that is being saved by doing this to all of the people that this is affecting? How can the government get Away with all the TAKING and never giving anything back... Perhaps this is why I never read papers its just so frustrating!!0

I think you will find that if you look up your life expectancy 20 years ago and compare it with your current life expectancy, it has increased by more than the years you have "lost".
