Cancelling BT Broadband

I am coming to the end of my 12 month contract with BT Broadband and thinking of changing provider to Virgin Media.I pay £26 with BT and I can get the same deal with Virgin for £18.I really like BT and would like to stay with them but it's a big difference in price. Will they offer me a better deal if I phone up to cancel and tell them what Virgin is offering , or do they just say Goodbye.
Anyone had any joy or experience trying to get a better deal from them.

They will probably offer you a deal price for 3 months with a 12 month contract. That's what they did to me - in fact they assured me it was a 3month deal price on a 3 month contract but then I received a letter thanking me for signing up for a 12 month contract
so I cancelled the whole thing and went to MAAF :T
