Car parked on private driveway - what can we do?

  • Meepster, sorry, but I read your post as a 'suggestion' of what to do as well.

Personally, Ithink the best thing to do is say that you think there's a pile of 'adult' dvds in the boot and watch how quickly CID get there to take the car away for investigation!
  • Neighbour had one parked in his drive on A21, it got towed away to side road, forgot it was automatic. Owner not happy, police not interested, neighbour could not have done it -he was boxed in. if the owner had just gone 4 houses further then they could have parked on our car park, free.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • It's amazing how many people develope the same mentality as the clamping/ towaway scammers when the boot is on the other foot. To those advocating vandalism, remember that the "vandals" may return on another night and do the same thing to your car!

As the car is not causing an obstruction the way forward surely is to find and contact its owner. For example it may not have been reported stolen because he's gone on holiday, so don't assume its his fault.

OP, do you live near anything like an airport/train station?

I can't believe how impossible it is to remove a car from your property. We don't have 14 days notice to give them, we need the driveway now!

This would suggest the car is causing an obstruction?
  • OP says that it's stopping them using driveway to put their own car on, a little different to having trapped their car so it can't be driven onto the road. It isn't a good situation, agreed, but there may be an explanation. Disappointed at the disinterest of the police here.

OP, if you cant get into the car then get under it and slacken/cut the handbrake cable, push the car out onto the road, shut your gates or put another car on the drive and go the pub. When the police get a call about a car blocking the road they will soon get it moved and if they ask you how it got there then deny all knowledge of the event. Good luck.

  • i had similar years ago with a trailer that had been parked same way, i found out it belonged to a local furnishing shop, went in had a word with what turned out to be a `right little snot` "when i get time" was the reply, i gave him 30 mins, an hour later i hitched it up, towed it to just past the shop front and onto the double yellow lines and part way onto a bus stop, 4 hours later there was a banging on my door, said little snot demanding to know where his trailer was, my reply was dunno ive been in bed, not sure what happened to it but i did notice as i unhitched it and drove off a traffic warden on his way down, seemed he was quite good at this trick, made the mistake of parking the van across another residents drive, he ended up getting filled in over that one because of his attitude

You dont need a tow rope just a trolley jack under the back axle. Jack it up and roll it into the middle of the road. Mate did this to a car that used to block the drive by delivery drivers to his pub. Police soon turned up and go the car moved.
