My daughter has smashed her Blackberry beyond repair (it was an accident). She is on Tesco PAYG which is working fine and great value. I can get the same Blackberry from O2 for £40 less than at Tesco which is a big saving but will her Tesco sim card work in the O2 PAYG Blackberry???

I have looked around the internet and think it will but would like to get it confirmed if possible.

Thanks in advance guys:D

I am confused now as I have just had a chat online with a O2 sales person on their website. She said that the phone will only work with a O2 sim card for 12 months and it can't be unlocked until after that.

I understood from my research that a tesco simcard would work in a O2 Blackberry, if someone could help me with this asap I would appreciate it. To be honest I thought the O2 people would say what they did!

Of course they will say this because the only purpose of locking subsidised handsets is to prevent them from working on competitors' networks.

I am pretty sure that tesco sims work fine in O2 phones, but there are different unconfirmed opinions based on a general theory, not on the real status quo: Tesco on 02

They did a couple of years ago, don't know if anything's changed. My daughter bought her PAYG phone on O2 then bought a sim card to test it. It worked so moved to tesco mobile. Do you have or know anyone that has an O2 phone where you could try the sim in?

  • Will work absolutly fine in her o2 phone.

Its only the otherway round it doesnt work.

Some Tesco SIMs work in some O2 phones, some don't. There's no real rhyme or reason to which will.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

If this is correct, then according to the theory it has to be said differently:

"Some O2 phones work with Tesco SIMs, some don't".

Thanks for all the info guys........

We went into town and in the O2 shop they said NO it wouldn't work as the Blackberry 9300 is locked in a different way or something. I didn't really understand to be honest, it went over my head most of it but I did sort of expect them to say it wouldn't work and baffle me because they want you to buy their phone on their network.

Anyway before going in there we had gone into Carphone Warehouse and they had the 9300 on any network for £139.99, so we went back there. To be fair it was a better buy as well he asked if we had an old sim that was still switched on, I did on O2. So he did it as an upgrade and we got it for £129.99, it's sim free so not locked to anyone, she has her Tesco sim card in and everything works fine, so that was a crisis averted........... can't have a child without her Blackberry in 2012 the world might end!!!!!!!!!
