Freeview Recorder & DVD Player

Hi

Just looking for some advice, trying to buy DH a freeview player that is recordable and plays DVD's im not technical at all and as this is a gift I want to make sure I get the right thing.
I cancelled Sky last year as it was so expensive and the thing that he misses the most is being able to record things and watch when he wants. Any information or help is much appreciated

I'm sure amazon will be a good place to buy something from but as to reviews, I'd google your question. You're sure to get lots of info.

Why not just get a Freeview PVR such as the Humax PVR 9300T? Far better for his purpose and much like Sky+. A DVD recorder is not the same thing.
You can then get a DVD player for about £20 separately.
Richer Sounds will usually have the best deals.

Scotsbob, will this record terrestial channels as well or only Freeview?

macman is spot on.
I have the humax pvr9300t (as well as their foxsat decoder) and a DVD player cheapo, does everything I could ever want.

It records Freeview which is terrestrial. It won't record satellite TV.

There are dual Freeview/satellite recorders but that Samsung model isn't one of them.

Thanks for your answer,( this may sound thick) but will it record/play BBC and ITV channels ?

Yes, of course, it will record any channels available on Freeview.

cairndog, are you talking about BBC1, 2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Ceefax and Teletext? If so, you're talking about ANALOGUE terrestrial, which will be gone by 2013, so NOTHING will be able to record those! They're all available on DIGITAL terrestrial (Freeview!) anyway in much better quality.

Analaogue will be gone by October 2012 . Only N. East and N. Ireland still to switch now.
