Today i have had a bad letter from Norwich and Peterborough, this BS is today closing my account, and will only pay me 50% of my £1700.

The letter tells me that i do not manage my account correctly- Try having a divorce to pay for.

I am now waiting for a call from the Banking OPs Manager.

I am being told in the Norwich and Peterboroughs expectations i do not manage my account correctly can the B/S do this.

    Help:mad:

I have sent my first two letters off to N&P claiming back £1960 in charges and have had the usual non descript letters back has anyone else had dealings with them?

Also, I was advised before sending a court letter to contact the Banking Ombudsman and file a complaint with them as well. This I did and have had a letter back saying that N&P have 8 weeks to reply. Does this now mean I have to wait eight weeks or can I go ahead with my claim through the courts now? There letter also states that if I do not contact them they wil take no further action.
  • HI I am new here and am seeking advise!

I have an account with norwich and Peterborough, and have had loads of bank charges over the past 3 years Ive been with them.
After seeing what loads of other people have done I wrote to them asking for a refund of the charges.

Today I got a letter saying that they are giving me 30 days notice and thay once my account is closed they will only be refunding me 50% of what I asked for.

Can anybody please tell me what the next step is, as I dont think Im happt woth only half my money. Do I carry on, or just accept it?

Also in the letter they have stated that they want all my cards back etc within 14 days, however my account is not going to be closed for 30 days and Ill need my items to carry on my life until then!

ANY advise would be gratefully received.

A Very ANGERY and confussed Garthy!

You need to send them the letter before court action now and then take them to court.

You have nothing to lose as they have said they are closing your account. After this is done, contact the Financial Ombudsman and complain.

See the Budgeting and Current Account Board for a new account.

Do not dispair I have had the same reply it is just posturing. Set yourself up another account elsewhere and go for it.
  • I sent off charges to N & P last Friday, and checked the account this morning and had a £200 account credit paid into it. Also, got a letter from them this morning, saying goodwill basically and that you agreed to the charges when you opened the account.

Seeing as I am claiming nearly £2,000 from them, I don't quite think that is acceptable.

My question though, is which stage am I at now??? (sorry, new to all this, am also claiming back about £6,000 from Lloyds, and waiting for charge information from Abbey National. (long story, but single now and in charge of own finances.... enough said!!)
  • OK I am curranylt awayting my 10 day pesponse from the Banking OPs Manager. They have until firday. Whats my next step if they still wont budge? Also they are closing my account! I have said to them that I will complain to the OB: if they do this.

    PLease help!

    Hi there,
I've looked at the list of which charges can and cannot be claimed back but I'm still confused about my situation. Basically I bought something using paypal which uses a feature of back-up funding method if you don't have enough funds in the first account. My primary method of payment was paypal balance, my secondary method of payment was N&P account, but it had no funds in it as I don't actively use it very often. I left the secondary payment method as N&P by accident-normally I would have it set to a debit card. Needless to say that they tried to take money out of my N&P account which they couldn't do, this didn't take me overdrawn but N&P still charged me £25 for it as there were no funds in my account. At the time I just added £25 to my account and thought nothing more of it, then I got a letter saying I was overdrawn and being charged £19. I paid £19 into my account to bring the balance back up. Then I get a letter saying interest was charged on the original £25 i was overdrawn and on the £19 I was overdrawn at a whopping 22.44% and this charge had taken me overdrawn again.

Another thing I have noticed is I have received letters saying please pay money into you account within the next 5 days else interest will be paid plus a further £19 charge for being overdrawn, but it arrives either on or after 5 days later than dated on the letter!! I have no idea how I could prove I have received it later than the date because the envelopes are pre stamped (ie have no date or postmark on them). This is a ridiculous situation to be in as I'm being charged for charges they are making!! Can I claim back the original charge of £25 aswell as the other monthly charges? This has been happening every month for the last 5 months even though I have paid money into the account immediately and even spoken to customer advisors to say I have made payment into the account who assured me that it would be dealt with.
    Sincerely annoyed(!), Tigerliz
