02 premium rate text - 84242
Anyone on o2 contract notice a premium rate text delivered from 84242 on their bill. I'm not convinced that I have ordered this but customer services seem convinced that a txt was sent from my phone requesting a service.
This was within an hour of the phone being first connected to the network, a coincidence or can the multi-media companies spot new numbers coming on-line and start sending you rubbish ?
In the meantime I have txt'd STOP ALL to prevent further expensive txts

This is their standard reply that you must have requested it.
I had the same problem last July and argued it all the way to the CEO. O2 finally admitted that I had sent no such text and refunded my money.0 -
Interesting, did you get an explanation of how a txt that you didnt send showed up on your account / bill ?0

The Complaints Resolution department contacted the company responsible who provided them with the "supposed" interaction between them and me. On this list it showed the text I had supposedly sent to request the service.
The guy handling the complaint then confirmed to me that no such text had been sent. They agreed that the company were basically lying but what exactly they did after that I have no idea.
However CS were adamant that I had requested it initially and kept telling me it was impossible to happen otherwise.0 -
I have now recieved confirmation from a well known double barrel named company (initially famous for their TV sets) that the premium rate text that they have charged me for was for a ringtone.
I know for a fact that I didnt request any ringtone as they are a complete waste of money, and if I was that worried about the what they are claiming was sent to me I would have transferred it off a CD that I own to the phone - for free
Is the balance of justice that I have to prove that I didnt request this service ?
At the end of the day its only £3, but its the principle of being ripped off for something I have no involvement with.
Anyone working in the mobile phone industry have any insight as to how this error has occurred. As stated at the top of the thread, this happened within minutes of the new phone being first connected to 02 network0 -
