The garages which do mega cheap MOT's will normally try their best to find the tiniest faults and then quote you a million quid to fix it, in order to make up for the discounted test. I'm not certain but if the same garage does the work then they have to do the re-test for free.
However if you decide to take the car away and do the repairs elsewhere and go back for the re-test, they will normally charge 50-100% of the fee for the re-test.0 -

MOT for £18.95 (although it's actually gone up, I paid £15 a couple of years ago)
When I got mine done, I had 3 advisories (one of which was tyres which I already knew about, a damaged alloy wheel and I can't even remember what the other thing was) and it failed on a brake light being out, which they obviously changed to get it to pass, and cost me a grand sum of £4.
Cheap doesn't always mean you'll end up with a hefty remedial bill...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
