    HI All

Just trying to get an idea of what other similar familes bills are.

We are on eon save online 5 tariff.

Gas usage is 950 pounds per year.

    electricty 650 pounds per year.

2 adults, 12 yo and 3yo in 3 bed semi detached house.

Is this higher or lower than yours?

    thanks....icon14.gif

Your post is next to pointless without actual KWh usage, that is what you use, but pay in £££s
I use 18441KWh gas and 2636KWh electric that was about £800 gas and £300 electric, I also live in a semi and the heating is on whenever it is required

How many hours do you run your central for each day?

Its never actually off, I have a programmable thermostat.

    07,30 - 18,00 17 degrees c
    18,00 - 22,00 19 degrees c
    22,00 - 07,30 14 degrees c
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Thanks macman

    Electricity
    4,691 kWh

    Gas
    29,675 kWh

Gas combi boiler for Central heating and hot water, the boiler is 3 years old.

Plugging those figures into money supermarket, assuming you were in the midlands region, then expect to pay £130-£140 for both fuels.
So your £1600 per year is about right.

You do not give any units for your consumption, £ or Kwh?

For example my annual usage with gas central heating in a small property is.

Gas 9000 Kwh per annum, Electricity 2000 Kwh per annum.

That's the kind of figures I want to see. 24/7 heating and hot water for 9,000kWh per year and set at quite reasonable temperatures. Mine is much less but I set it to 12 at night (sometimes 10), 15 during the early day such as morning and weekends (and when moving about the house doing physical work such as housework) and 18 in the evening (or whenever I am sitting in the lounge). However, whenever I leave the house I always turn it off. So for about 40 hours a week it is turned off at certain times of the day and evening. Got home last Sunday morning after spending a night at a friends house and the house was 3 degrees...brrr chilly but didn't take long to reheat.
    :footie:

house built in 1933. solid brick walls. Loft insulated 2 years ago with a floor put on top!
All windows double glazed. Except for a orginal front door with a old wooden porch (to expensive to replace at present)

Stat set to 22 degrees c. on each morning for 1 hour. then evening 11hrs. Yikes its on for 12hrs.

The conventional wisdom is that a 1C reduction will reduce your usage by 10%. So reducing the temp to 20C will (in theory) use 20% less gas.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • reduced its running hours by 2per day and dropped the stat temp to 19 deg c. Thanks to you all. Hope this rudces our bills for next year...
  • "then evening 11hrs."

Seriously? You do live in the UK right? Just kidding, I can't understand this obsession with timers and thermostats I mean they're convenient sure but I find the best way is to turn it on and off yourself. It stays warm for a good few hours after the heating has gone off depending on how well the property is insulated etc etc. Pls don't mention the old well its more efficient to leave it running...

Its a balance between comfort and expense, I get that, but if you are wasting money you could be just a comfortable and have more money for other stuff :)
