Thats a good suggestion too - try booting with both the USB keyboard & Mouse removed too.

Assuming the Intel screen you mention is the full screen 'splash' hold down the Escape key when you power on to see the POST diagnostic screen. It may give you a clue as to the problem.

If not try disconnecting the hard drive then powering up, see if you can get into BIOS. If still no joy go back to basics, pull out all the cards you can, power on, then repeat adding a card until you can trace the problem or get back to where you started.

If you have a separate graphics card and onboard don't forget to plug-in to the onboard and pull the separate graphics too.

    Just an update

Got it working, uplugged everything and still no joy.

Then seen on another forum that you might want to try removing the battery on the motherboard for a few hours for the bios to reset.

Did that and hey ho its not working.

Thanks for all the help and advice

forgot all about this thread and rrobably a bit late for you BaileyB, but for anyone who maybe has a lenovo with the same problem, the problem with the laptop I was looking at was a broken USB port after all, once I straightened pins on it, laptop booted up no problem, this usb port is unusable though,
