I'm tempted to disagree a little here, if having your LBM and starting to clear your debts hasn't taught you self control with credit then it isn't really a LBM.
Credit has its uses and it can be used to make money and save moneyNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

Honestly? I cannot EVER see myself getting any form of credit again. I think it would be like the'just one small sip' to an alcoholic or 'just the one puff' to a ex-smoker. Good idea in principle tho...

GULITY your honour!!!!March 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

After I've paid off all my debts I don't think I would ever get any more again. And I'll be switching from FD as they have been so unhelpful and condesending.
I am subtly teaching SD about how to save on electric etc rather than scream "turn that off!" at her. Give her her due though, she knows good bargains! If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome!0 -
I closed 3 CC accounts today as they were paid off. I phoned each one and was dreading one (or all!) saying to me 'please don't leave us, how about a higher credit limit to keep you as a customer?'......it would have tested me!!!
Luckily they all went 'oh, ok, it is now closed, we'll send you a letter!'
Obviously I wasn't worth keeping!!0 -
I remember Capital one offering to increase my credit limit because I was a 'valued customer' and then saying that there was a £20 fee for the priviledge! Cheek of it. Shame I was young and naive and just saw the extra £££'s rather than how I was being ripped off by £20!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I can relate to the Bus Fare one!
Years ago, we took a "cheap" holiday to Somerset - stayed in the UK becuase it was cheaper than going abroad (my ideas of LBM were warped back then!)
We overspent on the CC and had to get petrol - had nothing. Not one penny. I too called the bank begging to up the overdraft instantly so we could get home! No need to beg - they upped it from £500 to £1500 instantly!!!!
Being a moneysaver in those days (HA!!!!!!) we got petrol, food for the trip home, full dinner at a service station, large Tesco shop when home etc etc etc.
It really would have been cheaper to go abroad!!!!!0 -
Gemmzie,
Trust me, I've had my LBM.(about £51K ago...)
I also know the benefits of credit-DH still has cards, and he pays the balance off each month. If there is a need for it, he can be my guardian credit angel. In fact, I still have 2 credit cards available to me (one with my current account and one via DH) BUT I never use them. Bottom line, I don't want it.
