    Which town?

    Nottingham
  • Nottingham seems to be having it's very own property crash - and its not just new builds. The streets I've been looking at buying in and my parents streets seem to have peaked in 2004. I don't really care - I'm sure it's mostly because of the bad press of the gun crime here, but that's restricted to one or two small areas near the centre.

It's good for me - it means I'm not buying at the peak. I'm sure prices will fall a bit more, but I'm looking to buy a house that we will live in for 10-15 years and I'm sure we'll be on the start of the next peak by then.
  • Yeah, gun crime kinda offsets parks, Starbucks & Waitroses
  • ?
I do wonder what outsiders think of Nottingham. It's a shame it's got such bad press. Generally the gun crime here is directly related to drugs - if you don't get involved with drugs then there's not a problem.
Still, the less people that move here, the better price I'm going to get for buying my first house :D
  • Hi,
Buying from builders off plan is dodgy. This practice has gone on since the start of time. The problems start when you complete and have the property for the first 6 month rental, when you come to re-new the tenancy most tenants take a new flat on the development leaving you with 1 that is 6 month old.
Which would you rent the nice smelling new 1 or the 6 month old 1
Take it from me Iv'e been in the property game for 25 years.
In answer to your question Northern Rock will touch negative equity if you are 100% on your credit file.

I have been wanting to move for ages but was quite comfortable with my 20k mortgage. Glad I sold mine when I did as the ones near my old house are now struggling to sell and its in the FTB price range. I rented for 6 months and was able to take advantage of the reduction in price of this house.
  • was viewing two houses over the weekends by whiteknights in Reading. was told that the lowest priced 3 bed houses i'm looking at will be gone by next week. didn't even seem to encourage me to buy it quick. the houses are asking £200k. The houses are not even in the best place. I'm really not sure what to believe now. from what he said the housing market is still rocketing forward.
