Why all the boiler/heating posts?

I don't know if one of the boards has been renamed or something recently, but there has been a sudden increase in heating and boiler related threads creeping into the gas and electric forum. Can the mods please do something? Surely it's better if this board remains about gas and electric supply? Boiler questions are completely unrelated.

Hi: we are in the middle of the heating season and the threads related to central heating would tend to increase at this time of year in this utilities subforum.

You will find a correlation between very cold weather and the increased use gas and electric (Utilities).

Gas boilers use - well - gas that is supplied by - well - utility suppliers!

    See the connection?

And 80% of the 'seasonal' posts ask the same old question: 'Is it cheaper to leave my CH on 24/7 or use the timer?'
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I'm inclined to say that boiler posts are in the right place on this thread. Nowadays, increasingly, boiler servicing and replacement etc is part of the service provider's brief, or at least an area which they want to capitalise on. You only have to look at the BG adverts to see this. Half the utilities' junk mail that comes through my door is about service plans and boiler replacement offers.
A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it.

I'm guessing the increase might be due to the season?
    Just a guess mind... ;)
That said, IMO posts about 'which new boiler?' etc should probably be in the 'in my home' forum but anything related to fuel or utility providers should be in 'utilities'.
But it's a fine line and there will always be topics which fall into both areas. It's not an issue to get het up about though - unless one's name is Victor Meldrew... :D
