  • And with traders like you out there who openly admit to wrong doings its no surprise is it. You car traders are all sharks and thats the reason I buy privately.

    Is there need for this?

If your bored put a film on or go for a walk, the op asked for peoples opinions not for you to post comments like you did.

trading standards can do nothing in this case

If they can't, I'm sure they can tell the op that.
What's the cost of a phone call compared to the cost of the car.

I'm sure she'll post back and let us know.

After all she has a mechanic who has stated the car hasn't suffered the rust in the last few months, and would have been like that when it was sold.
And he sees rust every day.

So if the motor trader can prove it wasn't, he'll be fine. If he can't, SOGA.

How old was the car and how much did you pay for it? Just because the dealer didn't give a warranty doesn't mean he isn't liable under the Sales of Goods Act, but this liability will vary depending on what you paid - clearly the expectations from a £10k or £1k car are different.

Welding shouldn't always be hugely expensive though - I've just put a new sill onto my VW Golf, cost £25 for the sill from eBay. Even if I'd paid someone to put it on I would be expecting change from £200.

And as you've probably learnt, when buying a car take someone with you who knows about cars, or pay for an AA inspection. Be thankful it wasn't something expensive (e.g. head gasket) or dangerous (e.g. brakes) that were wrong.

he said it's a lot of welding, it has a lot of holes in it front and passenger side and near the fuel pipes so they may need moving

i dont know what that means but i'm just quoting and this mechanic was recc. to me by quite a few people who said they are good, trustworthy

    the dealer was a stranger

The ones on here tend to put up a lot of mis-information in threads like these, so they don't really help their image do they?

while hindsight is a wonderful thing if you had asked before you purchased i could of told you that at this age the rear towers on the suspension springs collapse on these corsas and also the offside rear chassis leg
also the bulkhead under the brake master cylinder suffers severe corrosion

the trader may well have missed this on inspection and ive even seen an mot mioss the towers because they have a rubber gasket covering them to keep the ride smooth

pretty sick of all this trader knocking because without people like me bothering to help, the rest of you keyboard motoring know nothings are going to kill a good section of this forum and that helps no one specifically people asking for unbiased advice which is what i always give

Very expensive for a 1994 Corsa, I guess at the time he had the car there was nothing wrong with the car. As said he more than likely had it as a part ex and sold it straight on with what ever mot was left on it.

    Report him for what?
