I've never had any problems with any of them. Neiher has my partner. All the cars we've bought from private sellers have been fairly trouble free. The ones from dealers not so. One I dismantled at MOT time as it was uneconomical to repair and it was an old dog. I WAS ripped off by that dealer who sold it as clean, tidy etc. Back seats were covered with mud, stunk of dog etc. Filthy car, took over a week just to get rid of the smell and even then it came back randomly on a hot day. Another one is the ka we have now, sold as immaculate by some bloke in Portsmouth. OH got there and it was covered in metal patches underneath that had been welded in. We still have it 3 years later and its still going. Those are the only 2 cars we've had from dealers, both have been troublesome. The other 4/5 from private deals have been fine.
So in answer to your point, yes I've found private sellers to be pretty honest. The last car I bought the bloke openly told me he'd had problems with the oil cap blowing and he didn't know what it was. I knew it was a breather problem and how to deal with it so I bought it. I gave him a good price for it too - decent enough that he cancelled the auction and waited until 11:30pm for me to get to his house after a 10 hour drive. Over 1.5 years later its still alive and kicking. Needs a new cat but thats a service item. Apart from that its fine. He was an honest guy and even threw in some spare alloys he'd acquired for the car.i would strongly advise not to buy a charisma petrol as they have big issues with carboning of the inlet tract which costs a fortune to fix but would still pass an mot
