No, a cracked screen is indicative of a mechanical shock to the handset. This will have caused other problems inside. Very few warranties will offer any repair when there is sign of damage.

Your car analogy is incorrect. It would be like expecting a repair of the starter when the front was smashed in!
You a missing the point that there is absolutely no any logic behind CPW's suggestion.

    • If the fault cannot be fixed there is no point in replacing the cracked screen before replacing the entire handset.
    • If the fault can be fixed (under warranty or not) there is no point in insisting on replacing the screen for £160.
It is obvious that some financial arrangements, like charging the manufacturer for some fictitious job, stand behind this suggestion. What's really amazing is that CPW repair services are corrupted to a degree that they are losing touch with reality and don't even bother to behave logically and reasonably anymore.

I would agree with that if they has said the fault was due to abuse ...however they said they would exchange it if she replaced the screen.

The analogy is correct .... a car with a smashed in front end would not be useable the same as the phone would not be useable if the screen was smashed ...however I said the windscreen was cracked which does not stop the car being useable the same as the phone is still useable ;)
It's not just about the money
  • its still showing a cracked screen though-so they'll take that as oh thats what the problem is regardless of it still working

they blame the owner for the cracked screen so wont replace for free
    What goes around-comes around
  • What phone is it? In some cases, CPW will choose to replace a phone if they do not have authorisation to repair it. Apple and Blackberry products for example. Secondly, phones with cracked LCDa are notoriously difficult to repair without making the screen bleed further so if they did attempt to repair it, potentially they could render the phone unusable. Also, batteries are classified as a consumable so they only come with a six month warranty. If the handset is turning off whilst charging, this doesn't sound like a battery fault however, it could very well be hardware which comes back to my previous point.
