I got a new desk and monitor last week, set them up last night, there's a shelf for the monitor and I'd like to secure the monitor some how to the desk, but have got no idea how.

Reason being I have a cat who likes to knock stuff off and the monitor is really light and slim ( This one - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/aoc-e2343f-23-led-backlit-monitor-07677510-pdt.html) and I have visions of the cat knocking it off, either with his absolute clumsiness or with his 4am I want attention mischievousness.

Does anyone know of a way I can secure it to the desk?

Thanks.

I have mine secured with VHB tape, I use it for signmaking so its super strong but can be removed with a little force. A cat wouldn't knock it over. You could look at getting some but its not that cheap especially as you would only want a small amount.

Double sided tape would work also.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • Screw through the base into the desk.

    Thanks, both great idea's.

I suppose I could use blue tac too couldn't I.

Think I'll try the double sided tape and see how wobbly it feels.

Can't even keep the cat out the room because the massive sod can open the door.

This thread seems remarkably similar to the "what software methods can I use to stop my child looking at naughty websites?"-type of thread, which is really the Wrong Question. More straightforward to deal directly with the child's behaviour.

Hence I suggest that you prevent the cat getting into the room (you're telling us that it can enter through a shut door?!), or prevent it from climbing on the desk, or...
  • Hi,

it says in description that base can be used as a wall mount, so is that a possibility?

Yes, I am saying my cat can open my closed bedroom door. It just has a ball catch, he stands on his back legs and uses his body weight to open the door.

Same as my dog can open closed doors with handles by jumping up and using his nose to push the handle down.

He's a cat, they jump on stuff, he's clumsy and may knock it off accidentally as he ways 1kg more than the monitor.

I assume the Or.... means or get rid of the cat. Yeah, that's really helpful, thanks. I could put a crap load of things behind the door to stop the cat getting in there, or get a lock on there. How do I stop the cat getting on the desk when I'm out, or asleep, what if I accidentally leave the door open?

I could do all that.....or I could just use a bit of tape to secure the monitor.

Thanks, it does double as a wall mount, I'll try some tape first, if that doesn't seem to secure it I'll just drill a hole and screw it in.

You could always try 'Velco' tape if the double sided tape doesn't work

Mine too - if I don't remember to put something heavy against the door I am woken by the clunking as she repeatedly pulls at the bottom until it opens. Life involves a large amount of re-arranging my world to ensure the cat can't ruin things because however hard you try there's always that occasion when you don't put something away or don't shut the door. Dontcha just love em? ;)

My human has allowed me to post on this thread , ie he (it) has pushed the mouse so I could click on the reply button . My human also has experience of my cousins who used to swing on the door handle to allow them to open the door, and his previous cat used to roll on the floor , hook her fingernails (ok claws, she wasn't a human female, they would break their nails) under the fridge door roll over and then eat their chicken at 4 in the morning.
