Every time for me. Can't big this book up enough.

(Note to self....carefully slice open the pancake batter page before 21/2/12, it seems to be stuck together from last year:o:o).

If you only own one cook book, then its gotta be Ministry Of Food by the cooking god himself.
  • Cant beat the old Hairy Bikers, I love their take on shepherds pie. I also love Nigel Slaters recipes, he thinks outside the box.

We have quite a large collection of cookery books all obtained (At low prices) from charity shops
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I have managed to get an old copy of the good housekeeping cookery book think it was published 1966 (its older than me lol) for 20p. I have had a quick thumb through it and it had some old newpaper clippings and a very old handwritten christmas cake recipe which i think has been passed down im so pleased with my little bit of history lol.

    This:

It's old now. My mum bought it when it first came out in the 80s so I grew up on food from it. I bought myself a copy a couple of years ago. It covers everything!
  • Another vote for The Good Housekeeping Cookery Book. My mum had one and I bought one for me years later when I left home. I have two shelves of cookery books and I dip into all of them - but when I need a good basic recipe for a classic dish, that's my bible.

Delia's books are all good but particularly The Complete Cookery Course. Her recipes just don't go wrong and she only uses stuff you can get anywhere.

Jamie Oliver and Hairy Bikers are good for tasty food that isn't overburdened with 'technique'.

if I could only keep 1 cookbook it would be Nigella's How to Eat- lots of basic techniques and recipes, a joy to read and everything I have made from it has worked
