Transfer money out of Santander ISA

Returning to this, I want to say that Santanders staff haven't got a clue what they are doing.
As stated above, on their website it says that even with a Direct ISA, external money movements can be made in branch or on the phone.
After my initial call saying I had to transfer a small amount first, I phoned up to do the very same, and got told I'd have to go in branch, as the second amount I wanted to transfer would be too high to transfer this way (It's really not that high an amount and well within the faster payments limits!!)
So I go in branch and am told it's an Direct ISA so I can't come in the branch, I have to do it over the phone. Told them I'd tried that and was told to go in branch. She then went away and checked with a colleague and said you can't transfer money from an ISA to an external bank account, it's not allowed in the terms. The only option is to get a cheque.
What a complete and utter mess. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. I know for a fact money can be transferred from a Santander ISA to an external account via Faster Payments so why are the staff so clueless and contradictory?!
The way they go on you'd think I was part of some multi million pound fraud ring when all I want to do is move a few grand between accounts. Jokers!0
