what time does economy 7 starts?

i am with london electric and want to know what time does the economy 7 starts? and why the name economy 7?

also, i am guessing that all the electric in the house during economy 7 period is at the cheaper rate, not just the storage heater and boiler (as they only come on during economy 7 period).

You need to ask your supplier what times they have as they vary between suppliers and areas...some it's say between 1am and 8 am ....but others may be 11 pm to 6 am .................it depends when they are least in demand ,therefore cheaper .

Economy 7 is just the name the industry uses ,presumably because the average cheap rate hours are 7

Yes all the electric charged at those times is the saame cheap rate...................but all the electric used in the others hours(daytime) you are likely to pay more for in some areas, which is why it isn't always cheaper to be on economy 7

ECONOMY because it's the cheaper electricity that supplied during the off-peak night time period when overall demand is low.
7 because it lasts for SEVEN hours.

It should start at 00:30 and end at 07:30. (GMT)

This is GMT - Greenwich Mean Time - which is what we "use" during the "WINTER" - from the last Sunday in October through to the last Sunday in March.

During the "SUMMER" we "use" BST - British Summer Time (from last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October) when we advance our clocks by 1 hour.
However the "time" set on the electricity meter does not move with this hour so Economy Seven then runs from 01:30 to 08:30 (BST)

The "time" on the meter may not be set exactly correct. I have known them to be about an 1/2 hour out in either direction.

Not strictly true because it is whatever time your meter is set to, and this would have been set when the Economy 7 meter was installed.
Given that you can choose to swap electricity suppliers by just making a phone call to Powergen or British Gas or a dozen or more others, your Economy 7 period doesn't change because nobody comes out to recalibrate the meter !

I got the info from HERE
"As with any Economy 7 tariff, make sure you are aware of when the night rates come into effect; most energy companies don’t reduce their rates until quite late at night."

however I see your well informed from your earlier post so I bow to your knowledge;)

No-one seems to have mentioned radio teleswitching meters. These are controlled by a radio signal (sent as part of the Radio 4 Long Wave transmission) and so can switch at any time! Of course there will be rules governing what times they switch at.

Economy 7 runs from 1am - 8am during the summer 12 am - 7 am during the winter,

this can be tweaked slightly by depending on your energy supplier but only by about 1/2 hr,
we had economy 7 in last house and I had timers on washer, dryer and dishwasher so they would come on during the night, and in summer I would get up at 7am and put in extra loads if needed,
the bills showed that I used as much electricity during E7 period as during day but at a drastically reduced cost,
