    It's the same LCD screen. One is lit by a big fluorescent tube, one is lit by lots of small Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). LEDs generally use less energy, and are more white. This may make the picture better or worse.
    DO NOT confuse these LED backit screens with OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) screens, where each individual pixel lights itself, which won't be big enough or cheap enough for consumers for a few years yet.
    Anyway, I stand by my comment, in the context it was written (viewing angles). Plasmas just don't have one, LCD screens (no matter what backlight!) do.
