Try the Argonaut on Fishermans Wharf in SF.

In vegas your looking at The Venetian, The Bellagio, and Wynn.

    All within your budget.

Also use https://www.tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews and dont forget to use quidco if you book your rooms through places such as virginholidays etc.

Also consider THE HOTEL at Mandalay Bay in Vegas, espcially if you want the best pool in town ( strictly for guests only)

it certainly is different to all the others, with it's luxury boutique style. but then again all upper end hotels in vegas are unique

let us know where you choose

see the las vegas bargain hunt thread on this board for all the links and info you will need to hunt down a great deal

We stayed at The Paris in Vegas, ask for a room overlooking the Bellagio and you will be certain of a great view of the strip. the Paris is halfway along the strip so ideal to walk one way one night and then the other way the next....it takes ages to walk as you have to keep going in and out of the gambleing rooms but that is also half the fun. Enjoy the buffets !!!!

We stayed at the Aladdin for a few nights last year and asked for a fountain view room. We were really chuffed to have this view from our room

  • Yeah, the Mandalay Bay is meant to be one of the most popular and is in a different league inside, but it is at one end of the main strip. It would probably be better to be located as far to the centre of the strip as you can unless you want to walk or get a bus.

As for LA have a look at the laguna beach area and for hotels in that area search tripadvisor.

Am I missing the point here or has the OP not asked for top end hotels? PARIS? ALLADIN? nice hotels but crap compared to the big four on the strip of Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian and Mandalay Bay. Haven't stayed in the Wynn yet but given the choice we would go for the concierge level acommodation of Venetian before Mandalay Bay and Bellagio.

pool at Mandalay Bay is top rate???? Has anyone posting here actually tried it out?

seen it with the wave machine on through the window next to Shark reef.

    very impressive

. if the pool was high on my list of wants would definatly choose Mandalay Bay , The Hotel at Mandalay bay and don,t forget The Four Seasons is also built into main hotel

they are apparently very dilligent on checking that only guests get to sample the delights of the pool.
