My DD does a 'girly evening' or weekend with her DD when her son goes to his dads and her OH has to work or go away! they make a real event of it! my 9 year old granddaughter has become an expert on applying make-up to her mum! they both enjoy it - girly time!
actually - my DD enjoys it because she prepares for it and doesnt do a stroke of housework and the health lunches are salads she prepared earlier! she says it feels like a spa weekend to her too! they both have a lot of fun!0

do you have a tent that you could all go camping in? pitch up in the back garden so you still have access to luxuries like a toilet!0

Seen as though you dont have a cheap cimema near you, you could make your own cinema night/afternoon. You could all choose a dvd that you already have or hire one for the day, buy a couple of icecreams, some popcorn and some juice. Put the chairs/sofa right in front of the tv and turn off the lights, you could even have a half time interval and serve the icecream just like they used to do. You could even do pizzas for after, we have just started making our home made pizzas again and my son had forgotton just how scrummy they are. You could prepare the dough before the dvd to let it rise, grate the cheese and chop your toppings so that when the dvd has finished you dont have to prepare anything and the girls can then just make there own pizza, you could even let them colour in at the table like pizza hut whilst the pizzas are cooking.
Makes me want my two boys to be small again just so that i could do things like this again.
Just to add you could also get the girls to take pictures of there holiday week and then they could make a scrapbook out off all the pictures writing comments underneath them.

Could you camp out in the living room or something like that on camp beds/ sleeping bags?
I was going suggest something similar - turn life upside down for a bit.
Turn a room into a den - sleeping bags or blankets for beds, no set bedtimes for a couple of nights, meals can be chosen by kids (pizza for breakfast, chocolate and biscuits for lunch, etc), children get to chose an activity each and everyone has to join in - kids love a little bit of "controlled" anarchy! It can be far more fun than a paid-for day out.0

Turn the entire house into an obstacle course/fun house.
Buy some sort of indoor/outdoor games on Ebay.
Cinema in your living room day.
Paint a giant mural on a huge piece of material and hang it somewhere.
Volunteer somewhere local.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0

At 10 and 8 I'd be tempted to put them in the garden with a tonne of boxes and a few rolls of masking tape and then I'd sit back and read a book. Mine are 2 and 4 and I live for this day.0

 Aw :rotfl:
Is that what you would do on holiday then?
I remember looking enviously at the mums on holiday relaxing on sun loungers while their older children played
 It does happen eventually
I still like playing with them though, we do synchronised swimming displays on holiday now, much to the embarressment of the rest of the family £608.98

 In a heartbeat. :j
Seriously though, maybe they could surprise you with some good ideas? Let them know the budget and see if they come up with something feasible. Failing that, I love the camping idea.0
