Car dealer gazumped me or... ?

I am not trying to force anyone to sell me anything, just trying to find out why would they want to back out of the agreement after a week and what I should do if they are backing out of the agreement just because they have a friend or someone else who is interested in buying the car and now they do not want to sell it to me.
Mechanic confirmed that everything is fine with the car, I do not understand how all of a sudden there is a "discrepancy with the car"
Just because your mechanic SAYS its fine, doesnt mean it IS.
I would doubt that they are trying to back out because of a better offer. Firstly, you are giving them a very strong price as is for the car, and secondly its very bad business practice.
Heres one a year younger with similar miles for an easy £1,000 less.

Why ask on a forum?
If it concerns you that much, why not call in and ask to speak to the sales manager and get him to level with you.0 -
Paul,
Thanks for the example of another car, I'll look into it... Peterborough is miles away from me, so it would be difficult to view the car...
I just have my heart set on this one and would hate to think they are getting the rid of me just because they have a better buyer. I know it would be a bad business for a car dealer to do something like that but they are known to do lot worst then this.0 -

You can't force dealer to sell to you. The deposit system is very one sided! You just have to move on unfortunately. In theory you could sue for 'loss of bargain' if you had to pay more for another one somewhere else, but you'd be wasting your money0

Take it back and run.
And, seriously, never set your heart on a particular car ever again.

What if you are wrong and there is something major wrong with the car that your mechanic may not have picked it up.
You did say rear windows were not working so there is some kind of electrical fault.
I would walk away, as others have said there are other cars for sale0 -
"some discrepancies"... Maybe they've found it's a ringer, or it's still got finance on it.
Or the low milage is due to the "1" in front of the 26,000 being missing.0 -
Take your money and run, never go back to that dealer again..... It's doesn't matter what the truth is, they are most definitely lying to you.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
