Angela Rippon on Rip Off Britain

She just said that RBS, NatWest and Lloyds all charge basic bank account holders for using cash machines which are not part of the same bank.

Is this true?

As far as I know, Basic account holders can only use an RBS/Natwest ATM or post office counter. Any other current account customers can use any cash machine with no charge

so if a Basic account holder tries to use a Barclays cash machine for example, it just won't work?

A basic RBS Group customer can only use an RBS/Natwest ATM or Post office counter as said above.

All other RBS Group/Natwest customers who have a higher account can use any ATM.

I think they're all on something.

Only watched it once, by accident, and was far from impressed. It has the same false earnestness as the ambulance chaser ads. And as much applicability to most.

I only caught 5 minutes, so I thought it was mostly about the lack of free ATMs in deprived areas.

Though I did catch something about RBS/Lloyds TSB basic account customers from "last year" being charged to use machines other than their own.

The Biggest Rip off is these old Biddys (All Millionaires or at least very rich) taking our licence fee to spout absolute rubbish.

A very disappointing programme, not worth watching.

Lightweight programme - not a touch on Watchdog or the old That's Life for those of us old enough to remember it. Whole programme just looks like a forum to "air" three old ducks with not much to do.
