But, in my experience, there is 'rights' and there is attitude., and some schools will see that they have a responsibility to help these youngsters.., others will do the lip service dance.., saying they will do x, y and z.., but it never actually happens .[/QUOTE]

    this is so, so true!!!!

MYDS's school look fab on the issue of SEN in OFSTED reports. However they can sing and dance for OFSTED but the reality is that they absolutely do not know how to meet the SEN needs of bright SEN children (I.E. aspergers). I even had the SEN teacher and SENCO tell me they simply did not know what to do with bright SEN children. I suggested they found out....

Oh dear, back down to earth again.

I have a five year old as well as my older son. I was eager to change his school because I needed him to go to a closer school because of my health problems, to enable me to help my older son when he needed it, but also because my younger son is showing some signs of challenges. I couldn't get his previous school to take me seriously.., they did do a very good test on him but refused to follow it through.

Today one of his teachers came to me in the playground and said I needed to do some extra work teaching my younger son to write. She talked to me as if no one had been trying., that teaching him 'their' way was the answer to any challenges he might face (he doesn't know where he is on a piece of paper so it makes it quite difficult for him to form letters). When I tried to explain the history and it might not be as simple as she thought she explained she was the SENCO . I said I didn't want him to feel he was worse than anyone else, she said he already did.

I feel really really bad now. I know, if at all possible, he needs to learn to write and be confident of his ability. But my heart sinks at the thought of the process again. My older son only started achieving when we took writing out of the picture (he started using a laptop). That's after 6 years of teaching. Six years when he felt a failure in spite of my best efforts to support him. I'm feeling awful emotionally, know its not a constructive reaction, can appreciate what the SENCO said, but hated her 'oh we can do this' bright smile.., because of the cost to my son.

I also remember someone on here saying that her daughter (with dyspraxia) with a lot of teaching did learn to write very well, so some definitely do learn. I wish I had a hammer to knock the negativity out of my head.., just feel so depressed all of a sudden. I must be crazy.., I wanted someone to do something to help my younger son., now they are I just feel like running away lol.

Deanna - sleep on it hun! at the very worst you could smile brightly at the twit and say 'Yes, lets try that then - and reassess at the end of term'! while researching how to get round this obstacle!
chin up hun - youve come through far worse!

Now I am going to love ya and leave ya - I dont want to hijack your thread! I am starting a new one and I intend to detail 'The Battle'. Hopefully, it will prove of use to people just beginning to suspect their Loved One is not quite the same as the other kids! Plus give me a place to vent! as I am sure I will need it!
