Huns charity shops are a god send I love the places the only people that ever get judged in there are the ones who try to haggle the prices down! If the workers knew your situation they more than likely will keep things aside for you if you give them a shopping list of items you need and your budget. I hope things start to pick up for you soon and that you manage to get that much needed fridge, when you post in freecycle and so on mention that you have recently been housed after a time living rough and that any help to get things to your flat would be greatly appreciated you may be surprised who will help.well today was a complete waste of make up :eek:0

you'll get over going in charity shops, I'm always in the one across the road, they know me by name! every time I have a clear out I take stuff in and they have some nice bits in there, bought loads of things for my cats, my son spends pennies on the books and toys, had a lovely vase for a few quid for my front room, I'm more chuffed with things I buy in there for a few quid than paying the prices in shops!
Glad you feel better for getting out and talking to people xBe who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
White knight sunny one are you really being serious ?
So I have to explain my posting times now do I how ridiculous.
So I take it back you are being nasty and heartless.
samsung mobile phone flip phone not sure what it's called over a year old. Bought in happier times. T mobile sim card bought last august cost ten pounds which gives unlimited date usage for a year. yes that's ten pounds for a full year ! I do hope you approve !
Don't feel you have to explain to anyone
. I have been in your situation many years ago and I know how difficult it is. Have a look in your area if there is a foam place and if so give them a ring, explain your situation and ask if they have any seconds/ off cut of foam that could be used as a temporary floor mattress. At least that has to be better than the blow up bed.
I would also put an advert in the local newsagents for items, and it might be worth knocking on a few doors (with caution) to see if anyone has a campbed or similar that they no longer want as everyone has things knocking around.
Good luck

Hi fairy.fly
Have been trying to think 'outside the box' to find some way to help you.
I am wondering if you have a slavation army or local church in your area?
I understand from your posts that you are finding it difficult to approach people about your difficulties so I was wondering if you might approach Christians Against Poverty (see here: https://www.capdebthelp.org/en_GB/about) to see if they know of any local church that may help.
They are primarily a debt help service but I believe that they would listen sympathetically and try to help if they could.
You do not have to be a Christian yourself.
I have heard very good things about them.
Worth a try I think.0 -
If you feel you are able to outline your circumstances, I'd go for putting a wanted ad on freecycle and explain that you can't collect but if anyone can deliver to you you'd very much appreciate the help.
Our local freecycle often has messages saying "if it doesn't go by the weekend, it's off to the tip" and you might find it's as easy for someone to get something to you as it is for them to get it to the tip. Might not be practical for larger items (although someone might surprise you and have a van) but could help with curtains, rugs and kitchen equipment.
I've taken things to peoples houses for them on occasion. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Thanks to everyone who replied to my thread i do have some good news to report. The IRS phoned me this morning informing me that my claim had been partially accepted i think they said level 4 ? The person did drill me on some information but over the phone i'm actually quite confident and stood my ground and told the reviewer my situation i did tell them at one point i thought some of the comments were condecending he did apologise if he had but i know when someone is being judgemental they also had information from my housing officer which i assume helped. I'm getting just under half of what i asked for but that will do a huge amount in my current circumstances. I didn't ask but will the amount have to be spent on new items ? as i think i did read they need receipts. He did say i would get a letter with the decision but when i pushed him he did say an amount after several requests.
I'm still going to continue to look in charity shops and browse freecycle and i'm going to emmaus on friday0 -
Brilliant news fairy.fly, it pays not to give up at times, it may not be what you asked for but what you get will go a long way to getting a comfortable home.
Someone mentioned taking things to the tip, well at our local tip the staff there sort through all the stuff thats brought up and anything in good condition and working they put out for sale, it may sound silly and maybe some will stick their noses up in disgust but you really can get some good bargains, a lot of people chuck out good stuff because they cant be bothered to have it around waiting for it to sell.
I got a dining table and 4 chairs in excellent condition for £20 from our local tip, or household refuse center as I like to call it lol, its well worth a look if you have one near you, the only thing is, I have no idea who has the money from the items sold, maybe it goes in the staffs pockets, which wouldnt bother me to be honest as they do a really good job up there and if they can make a little bit on the side good for them.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
See? Am glad that you did it, bet you are too.0

OP, Are you on facebook? we have a few selling sites in our area, I just got my son a divan bed base for £5! I had to get a friend to pick it up, but if you see things advertised you could always ask of they deliver (I deliver things if they can fit in my car)
Also Ebay is great for collection only items and maybe you could put an ad up on one of the selling sites and ask for peeps to help you with collecting the big items.
Good luck with it all, I had to start again from a refuge, I did have a bit of help but it was stil hard!0 -
I have to say, it's heartening reading this thread!
OP, how did you end up leaving yr parents and ending up on the streets at the age of 42, that must have been badWhen your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.
