which is why there is an opt out.
I posted about this months ago

    Thank you very much.

I've had a look at the RM website. I'm not in one of the trial areas and it ends this month anyway.

Worry over - or at least it is until they decide to roll it out everywhere!

My question is, if royal mail do this, would it be considered a breach of contract? The point of signed for delivery is so it gets to the correct person and you can prove it.

Wouldn't they just check the details of the service rather than breach the contract?

    Any thoughts welcome :-)

When I send recorded delivery items I do so wanting to know it's arrived at it's destination - not at an address near it's destination.

    IMO, terrible

I would expect it to be brought in
its a great get out for RM
they want packets out of the office
they are cutting staff left, right and centre
they don't actually care where te packets go
they will crucify any staff they deem dont follow the (very loose) guidance given
my old office callers office is open at least 12 hours a day monday to friday
    Saturday,8 hours
the answer to staffigng it,is to get the staff dealing with priority items (special deliveries etc) to cover that
however these staff get given other duties every day to patch the hole
just recently the office got slaughtered in an audit because things simply are not being done as they should be.
tracking failures, delivery failures,"missing" charge items(accounting errors that are treated as missing items) etc
this boils down to no staff to cover basic duties
staff levels continue to be cut

I would have thought the SENDER should have an opt-out from this. After all it's the sender who has the contract with RM, not the recipient.

But then again, when has logic ever been important. ;)

but how does the SENDER know what the delivery situation is at the end?
regardless. folks moan about leaving with neighbour, they moan about not leaving with neighbour, the time, trhe creed of the postie, the bands, the parking of the vans(yes really),the postie walking too noisily (yes really) etc etc

So in theory if you don't opt-out then potentially a parcel could go "missing" with a neighbour and you wouldn't be able to make a claim against the sender or RM because as far as they are concerned RM have fulfilled their contract and "delivered" the item. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

    in what way?
you order a packet, you dont get it
you claim from the sender(i assume you mean in a business sense)
people moan about having to collect packages all the time
they moan about packets not being left with neighbours
now they moan about them being left with neighbours
if you don't like it,opt out
I have warned over and over again folks wouldnt like what was coming

    * this is from the people who manipulate figures, payout a £1000+ share payment to some, then say they are worthless 6 months later for the majority, say postal staff earn £30K etc etc

What a wonderful idea. *sarcastic face*

I truly believe RM have scored a whopper here. Posties have little enough time to go to one address, without having to go to several on their duties.
