  • Actually much to my partners annoyance I didn't by anything after walking around for nearly 4 hours.
I have literally gone through the house room by room looking everywhere and also the car.

Did you try anything on, dresses, jumpers, Gloves, my other bracelet would often fly off til Igot it altered.

And no offence but don't be silly about the jinx bit, even if you hadnt taken the insurance out you would stll have lost the ring and you would have had no insurance at all and be even more devasted than you are now.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I did try some things on and my gut feeling is this is how it was lost but it wasn't loose so I can't believe I wouldn't have felt it.

Go back where you tried them on, it may be just tucked in a corner somewhere, unfortunately, you dont feel them coming off, you dont even realise they have gone until you actually look at the blank space where the ring should be and you just cant believe your eyes that it isnt there, you can guess how many rings Ive lost lol

  • It was an awful feeling when I looked at my hand and realised my ring had gone but it was worse after the realisation set in that it wasn't just in my coat or the car or something silly.
That's a good idea to go back to the shopping centre and I might do that tomorrow afternoon.

They are likely to use a technique called cognative questioning. It is a method of telling who is telling the truth and who is lying, there are a number of ways of doing it but it generally is around asking very similar questions time and time again in slightly different ways and generally in more detail each time and then checking that all your answers hang together. They can also ask spurious questions that you probably shouldnt know the answer to and thus should answer the fact you dont know.

If you are telling the truth you should be consistent in your answers and be able to add detail fairly effortlessly and likewise not know the answers to things you probably wont. If you are lying you will have inconsistencies, will struggle with details that you should know and will probably make up answers to questions that you probably shouldnt know.

I often wonder how that works.
I'm lucky if I remember what I did yesterday.

I came off a ferry once.
Customs asked me where I'd been.
I thought about it, thought some more, then said

    "France"

    They weren't impressed.

They were even less impressed when they stuck their hands in the pockets of my bags, (odd, they decided to search the car), and asked what was in it.

"Two weeks used underwear in that one"

She took her hand out and let me go.

Probably thought someone that stupid couldn't make anything up.

But if you tell the truth, you'll be ok.

If you can't remember, tell them, if the answer sounds daft, tell them anyway. It'll be the same answer they've heard from everyone else if it's true.
  • I'm lucky that I've got quite a good memory and I know I haven't really got anything to be worried about but it's all the horror stories you hear that worry me.
  • Had the call this morning, the guy was very nice but as predicted did ask the same question several times and in several different ways.

They are sending out a letter requesting a written statement, crime number, proof of purchase etc.
He said the concerns are that obviously it's such a new policy and also that the ring was not loose so he didn't understand how it could have come off.

I don't have the receipt and we have wracked our brains trying to remember which jeweller it was but can't.
I had the ring cleaned at my local jewellers and he has all the details of the ring, type, diamond etc so is going to do a report which hopefully will be enough.

Learn a lesson from it, anything like this and say electrical items, TVs, computers always keep the receipts. The easiest way to keep them for boxed items is put the reciept in the empty box, put the box in the loft or garage, that way you know exactly where every single receipt is.

You said you were going back to the shops today, let us know how you get on.

  • No joy at the shopping centre :(

As the local jeweller has a record of the ring is that likely to be enough or should I ask him to do a post loss valuation?
