I think that £300 is pretty reasonable really. To refit the carpet, they are going to have to empty the room - which means that they can't use it. Therefore, they could actually charge you for room use as well.

I think they have ripped me off as I dont see how it costs £300 to change carpet.

I think you left yourself open to getting ripped off if you were too lazy to try and clean the carpet yourself. You thought it was ok to just leave it stained??

It was literally a few dots, just seems like they found something to make £300 from

the things people get up to in hotel rooms, have seen worse to be honest think you were lucky to get away with £300, you dont really know what effects it had on the carpet.

£300 wont just be the invoice for the cleaners it will have admin on as well.

Have to ask, why did you register in 2009 and not make a post today, that seems stranger than dying your hair in a hotel room :)

Go and collect your old carpet with a few drops on it. Its yours you paid for it.Why do you think they would replace it with a cheap one ?

£300 is barely enough to cover a hotel room, hotels do not use the cheapest carpet from carpetright, and I can barely do a room at home for that. (in fact never done a room at home for that)

i would be horrified if i paid for a hotel room which had stains on the carpet - yuk

they cant risk losing business through bad reviews (tripadvisor can bring a hotel rating way down)

also when shopping for the hair dye (or taking it from home) did u not think about the hotel furnishings?

and a semi-permanent hair colour lasts "upto 8 washes"
do u really expect them to shampoo the carpet numerous times to cover for your laziness?

also its only semi=permanent on human hair. it can & often does stain other fabrics permanently (hence the bottles tells u to wear protective clothing etc)

i bet u wish u put one of their towels down now, cheaper to replace one of those i would imagine...:o
  • so If I left a chocolate stain on the carpet, would they charge me for cleaning that/

Has it not occured to anyone that having guests in a hotel is a risk and dont the hotels have insurance in place for such events? do they have signs up warning that any accidents will be charged for?
    I would fight this charge.

Hotels and most businesses would not be able to insure for risks this small. It would put the premiums up signficantly, which of course would be reflected in their rates.

Hotels do warn about damages, perhaps it was on the registration card, or in the terms of booking, but it is normally there. Even if not, then they could seek recovery for damages.

Most common occurrences are rooms off due to smoking in non smoking bedrooms (smell is awful in bedrooms, room then has to be left out of order to air) or even deliberate damage.

It might seem a little harsh, but then dying one's hair in a hotel room, is not the norm either.

chocolate is a lot easier to clean up, although personally I would be mortified if I left such a stain on someone else's property.
