hotel situation

Hi,

I wanted your advise on a situation I have been in recently. Me, my husband and a few other couples were staying at a hotel in birmingham recently. During the visit I died my hair in the room and managed to get a few drops on the carpet. The die was a semi permanent die so can be washed out of the carpet. The hotel have told me that they have asked professional cleaners for a quote and they said they can not take the stains out. They have now charged my credit card for £300 and told me that is the cost of replacing the carpet in the room. I don't mind paying the fine, but I do not believe it costs £300.

It's not a 'fine' - it's the cost of putting right the damage you did.

And I can easily believe that cost. I'm sure if you insist they can produce an invoice to prove it.

    Sorry
  • I cant see how it can cost £300 to change carpet in a small room, also most professional clearners are able to get rid of most stains, especially as the die was a semi.

There's a bit of a contradiction between your 2 posts OP.
If the dye was so easy to get out (as in your first post) I'd have done by best to clean it up when I first saw it & there would probably have been no issue with the hotel. At the most it may have involved a small cleaning bill.
If, as you say in your 2nd post, the carpet needs changing then you owe the cost involved for that.

I think they have ripped me off as I dont see how it costs £300 to change carpet.

i can understand that £300 seems alot for a carpet but when the carpet's purpose is for hospitality i.e hotels/pubs/clubs then the carpet has to be fire retardant beyond belief and its that, that causes the huge price.

Only know the above due to working in hotel industry in a prior job to current!

Is it just me or is dyeing your hair in a hotel normal?
  • Depending on the colour of the carpet they will have had to clean it all so they're not just left with one clean patch where the dye was.

Not really but if you're in a rush or something then maybe.

I once dyed mine the day before but left red hair dye all over the towel I had wrapped round my hair so asked them to charge me for the towel as I felt bad, they said it didn't matter which was nice of them.

Loss of business in that room while the work is being done.
Paying staff to clear the room ready for the carpet layers.
It's not just the cost of the carpet (which presumably is a specific type/design) & labour for laying it. They usually don't just go out & buy the cheapest cut-off they can find which fits.
