I am owned by a cat that does exactly what is happening to you....I don't live near Bristol so I know it can't be him!
We have tried to keep him in at night but he basically pulls the whole cat flap out of the backdoor if we lock it. He has also broken several of our neighbours catflaps when they have locked them, again pulled them out the wall or door. If he wants to get in or out, he will do whatever in his power to do so.
Thankfully most of our neighbours in our cul-de-sac have like us, lived here for a long time and they all know him. I have told them to spray him with water but that doesn't bother him, he quite likes water.... actually too much as he stole/killed, whatever you want to call it, quite a few koi carp out of a garden a few streets away...and left his collar behind in the process. I can't deny it wasn't him as he brought one of the fish home..and our cat doesn't have a tail (another one of his troubles he caused) so he is easily recognised.
He has broken into houses and attacked people's cats, steals food, destroyed their xmas trees (and brought tinsel home to show off), brings pieces of puzzle home, screwdrivers etc. On a weekly basis I go round my neighbours to see if they are missing anything and they take back what is theirs.
We now accept him as he is, but I do get so fed up with his breaking things all the time and going into people's houses..and we don't know how to stop it. We have considered boarding up the backdoor (removing the catflap) but I have 3 other cats (normal ones) to consider and if we lock him in, he is like the devil possessed.
Could you hang a paper collar on the cat's neck so the owner knows what he is doing? I had people contact me cause they knew he was ours, or got his details from his collar...and then when we stopped putting a collar on him, he would come home with a paper one now and then, with a message to contact XXX.
good grief that sounds like a devil cat. breaking into people's houses?!
normally magnetic collars matched with cat flaps do the trick... we had a similar problem, cat from upstairs would come in and help itself to whatever it pleased and then come and lay on the bed as if it was one of our own :mad:Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
omg this thread has made me howl:rotfl:
my mom has a cat who invites his mates home, one cat ran out when mom heard the commotion one night, got wedged in cat flap then ran off with it attached:eek::rotfl:
my brother has pics of some of the offenders:D***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Ha ha some of the stories on here made me LOL esp the rabbit on the bed.
But intruders is a serious issue for your own cats. I had a similar problem but I was also dieting my cats at the time (well, permanently really.) When I changed the routine so they had 30 minutes in the morning to eat all their food then what was left got put in the fridge etc, the other cats (who I know belong to neighbours) realised there was no reason to come into the house after a while and stopped. That was during the day. At night, I 'collect' all my cat in via the IN ONLY setting on my flap and when all in, I put down the wooden door over it (hand made by a friend and means the cats understand it's closed and BEDTIME.) They all settle down and we have no marauders (one of whome was also spraying in my house until I got him neutered but that's a whole'nother thread.
Of course, this has always been our routine and it means having litter trays, but it works and my cats are happier when they know the flap is shut. They guard it during the day and even pounce on each other as they come through.
One of my neighbours completely neglects her cat so I do feed her but at the front door where mine don't go out. I de-flea and worm her and she has a shelter to sleep in. Would be good to find out who the cat belongs to.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
