I don't want to be hypocritical, roughrider, as I admit that I break speed limits just about every time I take my car on the road, and I am always in a line of traffic where everyone is doing the same. That's because probably the majority of limits are unrealistic, and it involves no danger if you go a bit faster. I think (hey I don't think, I KNOW) that a lot of speed limit enforcement is about making money. When it comes to the motorist they are ALL at it!

But if you get caught it isn't an excuse. You could try the equipment calibration issue (why not write to the Police before the time for accepting the FP expires) but it's a long shot.

You yourself left the impression that you were a bad driver by using the phrase "cut up". Now the question I have is how far ahead do you look? It appears from this that you don't scan far enough ahead to notice a manned police speed check. Usually there is a marked car there as well to chase anyone who doesn't stop. So another lesson you might want to learn is- look further ahead!

...looks like its all calmed down a bit, I just don’t see the point of slagging people off, yes we shouldn’t be speeding but sometimes, genuinely the Police are at fault & we all know majority of the time this is about them making money, meeting targets rather than simply 'road safety'

give them FA...I admit 'cut up' was not the appropriate phrase, as in actual fact I didn’t cut up, I just didn’t let said driver out and he got the ump and chased...what exactly he was going to do I cant say at this point, obviously drove past me as I was pulled over by the single policeman

Also just to clarify....I was driving up a hill and a rather 'blue oyster bar' dressed policeman came from behind a tree it seemed, walked into the road held something up and pulled me over....he looked strange, kinky leather trousers and yellow high visibility jacket and white flat hat it seemed. He had lovingly parked his bike in side the flats he pulled me into and set about his morning duties of making lots of money for the gov and giving out lots of magic fairy 3 points

It's easy to creep a few mph over the limit, but 42 in a 30 zone smacks of incompetence. You don't need to be staring at the speedo to know you're doing that sort of pace. IF (massive "if") the police equipment did turn out to be poorly calibrated it's only likely to be by a couple of percent at most, nowhere need the level of tolerance you'd need as a defence.

I know it's not the advice you want to hear, but pay the fine and learn your lesson.
  • Certainly I take your point

But Im sure people would agree the difference from doing to 30 to 40 mph when driving can seem slight

As mentioned, I did not believe I was going 42 mph as Policmen stated

Lets assume I was, again it didnt seem that fast

    cheers
  • Big thanks again to everyone for their help and I will be accepting the points and the fine

Well I got caught doing 45 in a 30 zone many years ago, as I thought it was a 40mph limit (very wide dual carriageway I had recently turned into so no speed signs seen beforehand, all other cars doing well over 35 as well!). Learnt my lesson, paid my fine and got 3 points - long gone now though and I have never got caught speeding since but would drive at 45 in a 40 on occasion!

Anyway it seems the OP has heeded the advice so it's 'case closed' here.
