Dig a hole in the floor if you can't take anything off the legs!

Sadly, I'm with the majority view here. It's certainly not the store's "fault"..... Well, there is one possibility.... You did say you'd tried it many times in the shop. Yet... the one you have doesn't feel comfortable. You could go into the shop, measure that one, and if there is a significant difference in height/shape, the the store might be at fault. Sofas do vary (especially cheap ones which come from various sources, and expensive ones that are hand-made, and middle-priced ones that are mass-produced... ).

Might be worth a go. Else, dig the saw out for the legs, or the pick axe for the floor.

You mentioned that you tried out the reclining action - is the one you bought a recliner?

Recliners tend to be a bit taller because the foot-rest that pops out needs to be long enough to comfortably support your lower legs. They figure that 90% of the time people will be sitting on them in the reclined position, rather than upright with their legs dangling.

And another vote with everyone else I'm afraid - it's perfectly fit for purpose. Some furniture shops have a satisfaction guarantee (particularly with mattresses as you can't test a full night's sleep in the store) so that would be your only way out.

If it was a cheaper sofa, it'll sag a bit in time and then you should find it comfier. We get a cheap-ish reclining sofa from Harveys just over a year ago and the two reclining seats (it's a 3-seater) are now lower than the middle seat.
