    Before leaving on 1st March I had to complete a declaration to Mastercard. I enclosed a covering letter explaining we were away for 3 months but would check my bank account on-line now and again to watch for the reimbursement. No joy!

    Upon returning, 27th May, I found several letters including one telling me they would assume if they did not hear from me within 14 days, they would close the case.

    Amongst these letters was yet another declaration I had to complete, very similar to the first. Anyway, I have just completed that, added copies of the Malev email confirmation of our booking, a copy of Malev's website telling me I have to seek reimbursement from my card issuer.

    This has completely spoilt the extended break to celebrate our reaching retirement age.

    By the way, I copied everything to my branch manager with a covering letter but he did not have the courtesy to even acknowledge this.

    BEXHILL BRANCH HSBC - Shame on you.

    Complain directly with the CE of HSBC, outline the time line of everything and state how unhappy you are with the service you have been provided. As its adress to the CE you will get a much higer level responce than from the branch manager.

    I think I will give it a few days to enable me calm down. Still shaking after sending everything the card people requested by recorded delivery at the post office just a couple of hours ago.

    This weekend is important as we have to attend my daughter's wedding. That involves a long drive to Cornwall which promises to be a real test given it is a double Bank Holiday. But I need to be calm to lead her down the aisle and make the regulatory speech!

    At last! We have just received a FULL reimbursement for the cost of the flights we lost through Malev's demise. Well, not actually a refund but rather a credit to our credit card account. It will take a while to use the credit up!

    Suffice it to say, we are over the moon and so happy that the situation has finally reached a satisfactory conclusion.

    I should like to take this opportunity to thank all on MSE who contributed with really helpful suggestions as to the way forward. Much of the advice was actually put to use. All communications made to HSBC contained links to this MSE forum so that they could see their actions were being reported.
