Quote form a medium sized local (Edinburgh) Company.
7 Windows, various sizes, all white frames/handles/cills, 'A' rated Nova 'Settanta' units. BSI Kitemark, 10 yr guarantee etc.
1) 1753mm x 1450mm
2) 305mm x 555mm
3) 595mm x 1010mm
4) 1735mm x 1010mm
5) 1170mm x 1010mm
6) 1170mm x 1010mm
7) 600mm x 1010mm
1 door, standard size (890x2100ish), uPVC.
Total price £4800
I have had a quote elsewhere for nearer £3.5k but the windows, although made in-house, looked cheap, only 5 chamber as opposed to 7, no kitemark and generally, poorer quality.
Do you get what you pay for when it comes to windows?

5 chamber windws are just fine doesnt make alot of difference you can get an a rated 5 chamber window but c rated are absolutley fine dont get fooled by sales techniques £4800 seems pricey get another 2 quotes from local companies will take you twenty years to get your money back on a rated there really isnt much difference between a rated and c rated a front door now you will get for about £450 and you windows are not that big average about £250 to £300 each fitted I would not pay more than £3.5 k for themjohnfarquhar74 wrote: »Quote form a medium sized local (Edinburgh) Company.

i would agree with this . Personally we have seen the Nova system and cannot say im keen on it its definatly not one of the top 4 window profiles which are Profile 22 , Kommerling ,Veka or Rehauif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

Thanks for that a6windows. Just had a 2nd quote this afternoon, fairly big company that covers all over Scotland, they quoted £3k for the windows only which are Veka units, £1200 for a Rock door(which is now a must-have as directed by the good lady wife!). That quote is certainly a fair bit lower than previous quotes. Just need to find reviews on their workmanship and honouring of guarantees etc.i would agree with this . and that's quote #3 came in tonight.
 7 windows and a composite door(albeit not a Rock door), £4200.
1 more to go then I think I'll make my mind up, gotta decide which is the best 'profile' & glass units if the cost is going to be around the same.
1 is Veka glass, othere is solaglas(although salesman also mentioned planitherm)?0

Dont worry about the glass make up as all new windows have to be C rated I myself use planibel A with swiss spacer bar as long as they reach C rated then thats fine there are so many options that all salesmen willtell you that theres is the best product dont fall for it they all have to to bsi standard now.Dont pay any deposits only pay when job is finished that way you have piece of mind I always take payment after job is complete good luck.johnfarquhar74 wrote: »and that's quote #3 came in tonight.

Some good info from knowledgeable people IMO .Not one of us has a good word to say about sales reps haha. A/ C rated frames glass all have their places and a is a and so on but there really is very little but its been tested and its there in black and white but you as a customer will never notice any difference and mainly all windows are as good as the people that fitted them.(or should i have said a duff window stands out like a sore thumb) DID YOU KNOW THAT BY HAVING NEW PVCu WINDOWS FITTED IN YOUR HOUSE YOU WILL SAVE THE HEAT LOSS BY AROUND 20% COMPARED TO SINGLE GLAZED WOODEN ONES. We have all heard that one on the telly or the doorstep but what they mean is the heat loss from your windows not the whole house and as there is only around 6% - 8% heat loss from your old wooden windows thats a BIG 2% in saving about the same as closing your curtains half a hour early. My best sales line- I AM NOT A SALES REP. 3K or a little more depending on make up and door style:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Planitherm glass is the most energy efficient glass on the market at the moment. This is due to it having an unrivalled mix of thermal efficiency and solar gain. It costs about the same as normal glass too, so if you are replacing your windows its a very smart investment.0

Hang on wasnt it Argon last year and vacume the year before and K sheild/ therma sheild/ultra sheild /and oh i can go on. Do you have how much more energy efficent details to hand compared to a standard 4/20/4 unit. It is better yes they are getting better yes . But by much ?? or is it a little like the helicopter outside your bedroom window thing. ? Just patter:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
