Insurance for garage employee driving car to MOT
Comments
-
i was thinking more speed cameras Why talk about about accidents and police impounding cars then
6 weeks later its up to the OP he wasnt driving
i know a trader who got done because he stupidly let a customer drive a sales car unaccompanied
i know a trader who sold a car and 20 minutes after leaving his forecourt it got a gatso speeding ticket, fortunately he had taken advice and on his invoice was the time customer drove away signed by them
everything is in the detail these days
I agree and advise my clients to keep good records to avoid problems, the ones that don't often get caught out.
I've had a road risk client, whose £80k Ferrari was written off by a garage employee on a "Test Drive", spinning it 720 degrees and then off into a field.0 -
surely a car on a sorn cant be on a road anyway? would the op have to unsorn the car before the mot?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I'm pretty sure the sorn is fine as you don't have to have tax to drive to a pre-booked MOT (because you need MOT certificate to get the tax in order to unsorn the car).
I still can't seem to get an answer regarding trade plates, just assurance from the company in question that the car will be insured. One of these assurances is in the form of a voicemail message so that should be ok I think.
Thanks for all your help everyone, vehicle ownership can be tricky at times, especially when it comes time to sell a car/buy a new one.£2012 in 2012 Challenge #232 : £561.29/£20120 -
Speed cameras are easy. You'll get a NIP in the post (within two weeks, not six, assuming the OP is also the registered keeper). The OP then ticks the box to say "I was not the driver, the driver of the vehicle was" and fills in the details of the garage and posts it off. They do not even need to put the name of the mechanic.
A second NIP will be sent to the garage who will be responsible for logging which mechanic had that car (it's an offence for them not to log this) and providing the name and home address of the mechanic who collected it. They send this back to the camera partnership who will then issue a third NIP directly to the mechanic, who will then come on here or Pepipoo asking for ways to wriggle out of it.0 -

you are talking ideal world of course with mango trees coconuts and palm trees gently swaying in the breeze
meanwhile back in blighty the driver has left, mandy in accounts is on holiday and the car was scrapped last thursday0 -
No, I'm just describing how the S172 request process works.
Once the OP nominates the garage, if the garage fails to provide the driver's details then it will be the garage that's prosecuted under S172, not the OP.
If they do come back to the OP, which they will only do if the garage tries to claim that they didn't have anybody driving the car at that date/time. The OP will have the MOT cert, this thread and that voice mail about insurance and collection as proof that someone from the garage was driving.0 -

it would still be easier for garage to send driver out with trade plates
job done
owner of car can relax0 -
Not every garage has trade plates. If the OP's choice of garage had them we probably wouldn't be having this thread.0
