energyhelpline cashback problems

I switched back in August 2012 from EDF to Scottish Power, via Energyhelpline. I went through Energyhelpline as at the time it was stated that I would get £30 cashback for switching dual fuel. I even made a reminder note for myself that I should expect £30 cashback around 90 days after the supply went live.
Almost 6 months on and I have had to chase Energyhelpline a couple of times asking where my cashback is. It turned out they paid £15 into my account at the end of December but they are now insisting that it was only ever going to be £15. Unfortunately the emails that I got from them back in August confirming the switch and the cashback never actually refer to a cashback amount (not £30, not £15, not anything else!) - very clever of them!
I am not impressed at this, it seems quite a few other customers have had this problem. Why promise a cashback amount that you have no intention of fulfilling? I'll be looking for review sites to leave a review for Energyhelpline and won't be using them again.0 -

Save for any special offers, EHL only pay £15 for a dual fuel switch using the MSE link.
You only get £30 if you switch your gas to one supplier and your electricity to another.
Do you have any evidence there was a special offer on when you switched?0 -
I saw the £15 for switching fuel suppliers via EnergyHelpline on MSE. Applied Oct 2012, switch confirmed later that month, 1st direct debit 15/11/12. Patiently waited 90 days for cashback. Nothing in bank account so called today. They maintain that I applied via Google not MSE (I dispute this) and say that if the confirmation didn't mention cashback (it didn't, except to say if I referred another customer we would both get £10), I am not due any. Total con. Won't ever use them to switch again! :mad:0

I am sorry to hear of the issues you have had when switching supplier.
These issues can often occur if you have previously visited another referrer and failed to clear your history, cache, cookies, etc, etc.
If your supplier says it was Google that referred you, then EHL would not have been paid any referral money by the supplier, so you can't expect EHL to pay you.
If you remain adament you went via EHL, have you tried contacting EHL? I am sure they would love to receive some referral money if they agree it was they that referred you ... and then they should give you some of it in the form of cashback.
As MSE Martin says, cashback is not guaranteed until it is in your bank account.0 -

I got the email stating I would be paid 4-6 weeks after transfer is complete.
I contacted them asking about my £80 and have been told my 4-6 weeks has been doubled to 90 days now, but I should have it by the end of the month which would be about 90 days :rotfl:
I hope MSE is getting paid well for promoting them0 -
I too switched using EHL. I too expected to receive £15 x 2 (one for the gas and one for the elctricity transfer). I received an initial £15 and when I emailed asking for the other £15 was told that I had agreed to receive £15 for the entire dual fuel transfer.
I will not use this company again. I am familiar with the switching process and at the time could have used other companies who were offering a box of wine or £30 for a dual transfer. At best I felt misled - I mean why would I deliberately use the company that offered me least?Make £10 per day in May challenge: £310/123.920 -
Yep I just had a similar reply.
We switched two accounts with them in August 2012. We were paid £15 cashback for one in November, we even received an email advising us of the payment. They are now claiming cashback was not applicable to the second account, despite confirmation by the EHL advisor at the time.
I would suggest that any other prospective customer demands an email confirming the offer so they can cancel within the cooling off period if necessary.
For us the cashback is not important, however we have been promoting EHL to customers visiting our office (without asking or being paid referral fees), and have recently received some negative feedback directly. Not only does this dishonesty impact on our reputation but it clearly destroys any trust there was with EHL. Now I am wondering how genuine the best deals are and if they really are competitive! Surely trust and reputation is more important to a company like theirs. If there are problems with administration of the cashback scheme then why offer it at all.
Needless to say our recommendations will cease.
Hopefully someone from MSE is taking note of this as I see they are still recommending them.0
