That was my guess too, the guide says direct download to try and avoid that possibility, could do with some certainty though.!!

I'm intrigued where this installbrain is coming from, it keeps appearing when people follow the guide, what did you install today?
commit charge going down should mean it is faster?
did you follow the ctfmon instruction for all user accounts on the machine?
http://www.trusteer.com/book/xp-users-uninstalling-rapport-using-safeuninstall-utility
stop adobearm, quicktime, messenger, ctfmon running at startup using msconfig
the ccleaner page has a BIG download button which i automatically presumed and pressed! the actual button was further down the page.maybe that is where the brain thing came from.
regarding the rapport i uninstalled it twice but its still there in my programs though the thing that gets put on search bar has gone.0 -
(i have also put this in a seperate thread in case more people will read it)
I put my cursor over the avast logo on the bar on the bottom of the computer and i am told that aa has been stopped or is in an inconsistent state. please restart the program.
well i have clicked the restart the program button and the fix now button and nothing happened.
i uninstalled and reinstalled and the same thing is there.
on registering i had a box come up with 'the aavm subsystem detected a rc error' and so i presume i am not registered.
what should i do.??0 -

i am unable to remove rapport. a box pops up saying that windows installer could not be accessed.(usually because of safe mode or not correctly installed).
any help on this one please?!!:D
You would be quicker reinstalling the lot

did everything they suggested twice over, still not working, going to reload avira for now.0 -
avira won't install properly either, has anything been done in the above threads that could have affected this?
Also, since doing the ccleaner the headphone socket won't work and the computer is asking for the printer to be installed. i haven't uninstalled either of them. they were working before. gone into devices but they are not there0 -
post a fresh log and make and model of machine
That's quite a diverse and unusual list of problems - it may be all these problems are linked, but no software or changes mentioned in the speedup sticky should stop printers/headphones/usb ports or AV working. Have you disabled any services, or found any infections during this process?
you could try a system restore to a few days ago, and start again
Do you have the windows disc or a factory restore partition?
what did you do with ccleaner? delete temp files or registry clean?
